Default Can Omni Power shocks (coilovers) be mounted longitudinally or in an inverted position?

If I could mount them that way, will they work properly in that position? Or they have to be mounted conventionally to work right? I emailed Omni Power didn't recieve a reply and asked a couple of dealers, but they couldn't answer my question. What's internally different in a shock that would allow it to be mounted upside down? If anyone has pics of cutaways or could explain, it would be appreciated.

WAT?

are you trying to build an open wheel race car or something where the weight of the car is even or under the center height of the wheels?

I can't imagine the seals lasting too long if you install them upside down.

But something like this?

Useless post... Why do people even bother responding with **** like this I'll never know. There are plenty of good reasons. If a shock is mounted in an inverted position (as opposed to where/how it is mounted now in Civics, Integras, S2000, etc.), the weight of the shock body is no longer unsprung weight. If you mount the shock in any position inside the chassis and activate it via pushrod, it is also no longer unsprung weight. Want to know more, google it. Either way, if you can't contribute to the thread with a semi inteligent reply, don't bother posting. Mmmkay?

If I was attempting something like that (building an open wheel racecar) Omni Power would be way down on the list of potential shocks "manufacturers" that I'd entertaining the idea of using. The LG Motorsports coilovers on my Z06 (Bilstein shocks, Hypercoil springs) are mounted that way (inverted, upside down). No problem with seals. Motorcycle dampers are inverted as well.

Can anybody send me a link with usefull info to read?

Edited for clarity.

Cool link. Thanks. It doesn't answer my question though. I tried searching on that site with no success.

Maybe someone can make it easy on me and just answer this question: if I mount Omni Power coilovers flat inside the car and have a pushrod transfer the movement from the control arm (trailing arm) via bell crank to the coilover, will the damper in question still work fine in that position? Do I have to worry about the seals leaking oil when it is operating in that position? I'm not really woried about upside down (won't happen for me).

it wont matter to the shock.

make sure the shock body has freedom of rotation. or else you put a side load.

typically a pushrod damper is designed for very short shock travel. i dont think youd use a regular shock.

as for inverting the mounting position, it doesnt matter either.

as for using omnipower or whatever else chinese off the shelf component for this... id look elsewhere. but i can see this as a total boondoggle project. so then i can understand wanting to start with cheap components.

Thanks for response. That's good to know about the shock positioning not playing a role on it's operation. Omnipower emailed me a response today as well, telling me their coilovers can be mounted in any position for custom applications and whatnot. I do know that in my case, it will be just a waste of time (not enough benefit to warant doing it on a econobox). But I already have the coilovers and metal stock to do this, so it won't cost me a whole lot (just rod ends, bolts, etc.).

I would think you would need quite a bit of bracing between the rear shock towers to do this. I assume this is for the rear, as there's really no room for a cantilevered suspension setup up front.

But yeah I've actually seen a photo on here of a Honda with a custom cantilever setup in the rear. I think the mount points for the dampers were built into the full roll cage in the vehicle.

I'd like to see pics of this when you get it completed.
