Default Cold Air Intake vs Intake Duct

Hello guys,
I like the sound of the Cold Air Intake. When I just bought the S2000 I removed the cover of the Air filter and it provided a nice sound. Though, it will let the filter absorb more heat from the engine, hence it's not a good solution. a K&N CAI at around $250 extends the pipe and has a shield that lets the Cold air flow from the front and blocks the heat from the engine. Another way I just found on ebay, is an Intake Duct, that is a special form pipe that extend the stock box of the air filter into the front bumper to give it colder air. It's good for performance I guess, theoretically at least. But I want the sound that a CAI produce, does this Duct make it sound like that, or no? Does anyone have an idea. I'm concerned about performance, 10HP is good with voice, but instead of paying $250 now, if the duct $40 provide a good sound, and keeps the stock intake, I prefer that. Did anyone try it?

Here's a link for both of them if they were still online

S@nt0s: Ok if I did something similar to the Duct. Will it give a louder sound like a CAI? Or no?

not if you are still running the resonator, it will get louder but very slightly.

As much as if you just remove the cover of the filter ?

iam7head: What is the resonator, and when you install for example the K&N cold air intake does it affect the resonator. ?

are you serious? i bought my intake for 1 cent and 19.99 shipping and i couldnt be happier. i had to buy some extra hoses and stuff from autozone but the total came out to about 25 bucks. i through a k&n filter on it and the rest was history

my friends k&n intake system uses the same exact design and everything. the only difference may be the metal used. i painted mine in order to give it more of that rugged look

its not like an intake on this car adds much performance anyways....it just sounds beautiful

your right. haha i know a lot of s2k people dont want to put cheap *** parts on their car and i dont blame them at all, however i cant afford otherwise. to you if you have the money to go all out on an cold air intake. if i was out of school and working full time my car would be a show piece with only the best **** on it

Im going to have to disagree with you there... a CAI on our cars will add around 8-10 with some cases at around 14-15whp... thats a considerable gain if you ask me

I agree with you, i believe that it can add power, its just my opinion of power is different from yours. i bought my intake for the sound, not really for performance. when you think of adding power to the s2k, a cold air intake doesnt really come to mind on these cars, just like cams and exhaust. if you compare it to an ls1 or some other cars its really isnt that large of a power difference.

i know when i think about adding powere i think of turbo or sc. im just saying that i dont think 8-10 hp is that big of a difference.

i do think that 15 to the wheels is pretty considerable but in most cases that costs an unbelieveable price.

i respect your opinion though as well as your 2100+ posts

What you have shown is pictures of their short ram intakes. They made a couple types:

mine is similar to the K&N Typhoon Kit 69-1040

http://www.knfilters.com/searc...040TS
http://www.knfilters.com/searc...40TWR

there is even dyno results and stuff on there.

and here is the actual install directions that i used to install my fake one that i copied from the k&n site
