weird sound coming from motor
first off i have a 93 civic ex coupe, b16a, stage 2 clutch, short ram air intake, stock exhaust but no muffler, and lowerd
well today my car started making this very weird sound....
its like a cross between a hissing and pssst kinda sound...not a knock or a tick...kinda like a leaky air hose but a little diffrent
the sound goes with my rpm's....more rpms the faster the sound is...
my check engin light comes on now too....
when ever im driving it sounds like its comming from under me or like just infront of me...
i turned off all the heating compnets, thinking it might be that...no
and my air filter is on snugg...so its not that...
the sound is also very faint when ever i put in the clutch and rev it up...but its really loud in 3rd gear...
i have no clue what it is...i was thinking it was like my i.m. or something...or maybe a hole in my exhaust...but i jacked it up and theres no hole...
the only thing that i notice is that theres like a piece of metal that is conned between the resignator and the exhaust pipe and it looks bent....(no camera for pics)

Is it a faint high-whine type of noise?
You mention you hear it well in third gear?
Possibly your input-shaft bearing? I wouldn't describe it as a 'hissing' but everything else seems to pretty accurate to what I was experiencing.
Check and figure out what code your CEL is giving off, that would help a ton. I don't think the CEL would come on for input-shaft bearing; but it could be unrelated. Could be your exhaust components rattling, that sometimes gives off weird sounds.

must be doin something wrong with the CEL code. paper clip and put the key into the ON position? should throw you a code
but if its a hissing sound, do you have an vac leak?

i dont think i have a vac leak..
but when i was driving it this morning the cel came on after driving it....
the cel wolt come on unless i have drove it for about 15min...if i jsut sit and let hte car un it wolt come on...only when im driving it...
so will the flash codes for the cel still come up if im going down the road?

u should push the jumper pin all the way in and i think it should be your knock sensor..that will be code 23... it is common on b16a swap into ek or eg civic...are u using p30 ecu ?
about your exhaust rattle sound..what kind of header and cat converter are u running ?

to fix the knock sensor..the best way to do is get a chipped p28 or chipped p06 ecu ro some people alter the harness a bit to bypass the knock snesor.. and about ignition output signal..i am not sure about that

it should be a sticker on the ecu...if u can get to it..let me know the serial number on it

knock snesor wont make any noise but some people say vtec wont engage because of knock sensor CEL on.. and the rattle sound..crawl under the car and find out where it is coming from.. i had this problem once and it turned out that my afterkaret mushroom type of air filter is rattling against engine bay chassis.
