Wire wheels, which ones are better than others?
Since I rarely use wire wheels on an angle grinder, I am curious if there are some brands that are better than others? I borrowed one the other day from a friend, and it was constantly throwing **** at me, and I looked like a porcupine when I was done, haha.
Anyway, from personal experience, do the twisted type work better than the non-twisted, and I'm obviously assuming not to ever consider the harbor freight crap..

i found a local supply house that has them 6" i think it is 5$ a wheel. they are pretty good unless your are really giving them hell. but twisted wheels work a little better then non twisted. non twisted start to bend one direction and have to be taken off and flipped every once in a while.
if the wheel are looking like that when you are done, you are either using to "soft" of a stainles wire or are applying to much pressure to the wheel.

I use the course stainless 6" wheels from lowes with no problems.
The thing that I've found is that they start throwing wires when they're getting old. The more wires they loose, the more frequently they will launch them at your face.

Paul's Ace hardware on broadway has the good ones. I dont' know what there called or anything about them other than they are the most expensive ones they offer. Almost $30 i believe but won't kill you like the other ones.
I use scotch brite wheels on my grinder, they're expensive but so much nicer than a wire wheel.
Obviously there's a few things wire wheels are better for, but not much. I get by just fine w/o a wire wheel in the shop.

no idea what brand we use at the shop but I get hit by a wire maybe once a month if that. We use twisted cup brushes and the um regular style ones I guess you would call them?

I agree, no wire wheel here anymore, scotch brite wheels and deburring wheels (which are $75 a pop) but well worth it, the finish is much nicer and no rough edges.
