transmission noises: constant grinding noises on deceleration and at high RPMs
ok, so... here's the deal. my GSR has ~160k on it. trans has been grinding on deceleration since i bought it. i have noticed lately that at high RPMs (7k+) the transmission (it sounds like it anyway) is making an awful grinding noise, like something is going to explode
any ideas? any basic tests i can perform? fluid is pretty clear but has lots of bronze flakes

additionally, when i rev the engine to 7500 with the trans in neutral (clutch engaged) there is no noise whatsoever.
there is no typical ISB noise at idle. there is no change in noise when engaging or disengaging the clutch, either.

hmm usualy the main bearing noise will change with the rpm un the low gears and disapate when going faster but not quite sure what noise then is their any way to record a clip so i can get a listen to it.
it's the motor mounts
last night i spent an hour checking everything out. i noticed both front torque mounts are completely torn, and the engine is rocking significantly without any support. so, for a temporary fix i wedged some rubber hose in the openings. it's definitely much better now. i'm sure filling the mounts tonight will take care of all the issues
the nosie from 7k rpm and up is gone. i'm guessing the engine was rotating so far that the torque mount brackets were banging against the frame rails.

I'm glad I read until the end before posting, I was going to say check the motor mounts.
My 96 lude is an auto->manual conversion and the mounts rattle from misalignment, had me fooled for a while as well.

well, i put in the trans side mount. basically, the trans torque mount was both loose, missing a bolt and completely ripped. it has been slowly destroying the tranny.
whatever noises might have been masked before, and now 1000x louder. there is constant crunching, whining and generally horrible noises even when accelerating now. i'm thinking it's either the diff or countershaft main bearings as it only makes noises when moving. no noise whatsoever in neutral.
fawk. time for rebuild. still shifts like butter tho.

nah. i'm going to run it for now and search for a replacement box. i'm considering just buying a new ITR tranny direct from an acura dealer.
i started hearing ISB noises/rattling at idle this AM with the new mount installed.
it's never shifted or felt better though

i'm picking up a JDM b16 tranny tomorrow morning. i'm hoping to have that in by next weekend.
i'll probably pull the GSR trans apart when it's out to see what's wrong.

well i have the old trans out
there's 1/8" of play in the input shaft. the ISB is most definitely blown to bits. i haven't cracked the case open yet, so i can't speculate about what else may be wrong.
