91 Accord LX slowly dying, HELP
Started a couple months ago...the car just didnt have as much oomph as normal when the gas was floored..... did fine when halfway pressed. Then power slowly got worse and worse until it would stumble and chug when the gas was halfway in or more. The more I pressed on the gas.... the worse it chugged. Replaced cap, rotor, plugs, fuel filter and that had no effect. I have good fuel pressure.... would something in the distributor cause this??? I mean it felt like I wasnt getting any timing advance or something. The problem just got slowly worse and worse, now it wont even start. I also resistance checked my MAP and Throttle Position sensors and they checked out OK, im stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this car has been awesome (doesnt even burn oil) and I cant afford to buy a new one. Thanks!
the timing could of jumped a tooth, or the fuel pump could be going out. have you done a compression test? does the motor crank, but not start?
I had a a prob on my 97, that was interment. I'd be driving along, then all of a sudden it felt like the power was on and off like it was turning of on on constantly. If I floored it it would go fine, but when I was at half throttle it would do it again. the prob would sometimes go away after a stop. I tried a lot of the same things you did, and nothing worked. Finally I replaced the fuel pump, and it's been fine. I did use the walbro 255lph pump, because I got a good deal on it.

If you have good fuel pressure like you said, then the fuel pump should be fine. Because of the gradual progress of your problem, I would guess that the timing belt would not be the problem, unless it has skipped another tooth. My guess would be the head gasket started to go bad, thus loosing some compression, giving less power. It has gradually gotten worse, which gradually sucked all of the power out of your engine. Now with the head gasket so bad (with so little compression on some of the cylinders), the car won't even start.
Like hondaccord said, get a compression test and if you have good compression than your head gasket isn't your problem. When your car was running, did you notice any white/bluish smoke from your exhaust? (As you probably know, colored exhaust can be a sign of a bad head gasket.)
