they are completely different maps.
Type-R has
more aggressive cams
larger port
8500 rpm redline
different I/M
off the top of my head those are known differences over the b16 which warrant the different maps.
if you are looking for ECU alternatives, get a chipped p28 with crome on it.

i went to this link http://www.hondata.com/techecuid.html and found out that pct ecu is for 98+ ITR / CTR
