Default anyone use a GM IAT sensor?

just wondering who uses a GM IAT sensor? i know it has alot quicker response than hondas IAT sensor which is very slow.

i would be keeping it in my new intake manifold like hondata reccommends..

i guess if the scaling is the same as the honda, there are no options for replacement iats that i am aware of.

The Honda one doesn't really respond that slowly. That is more or less a myth. The problem is that it is mounted on the intake manifold. Because of this, the heat from the heat soaked intake manifold effects how the much temperature change the IAT sees. If you mount it on the charge pipe you will see the Honda IAT sensor being much more effective.

Get the gm I am running one with my ems also and I just tapped the pipe and threaded it in.I am not familiar with hondata but if it has the scaling capabilities for the iat then use it.

with obd1 ecu's hondata recommends leaving the IAT in the intake manifold. that and i dont feel like changing my tune up by placing it in the charge pipe.

i dont know about it being a myth, but when im datalogging in s300 it hardly ever changes and we all know that in boosted app's the iats are constantly changing..dramatically and quickly sometimes.

i dont see any kind of rescaling for the iat in s300. it shouldnt matter any, both the gm and honda iat are both the same type of sensor. correct me if im wrong. i forget the word for the type of sensor it is.

tony, you have any feedback?

btw if anyone wants a aluminum 3/8th NPT bung to weld on to the intake manifold or charge pipe for the gm sensor you can get it on summit, they have about 50 different ones to choose from..

I simply mounted the sensor in my charge pipe by first heating the pipe cherry red and then I hammered a small section flat so it would mount flush. I then drilled a hole in the center for the sensor and used self tapping screws to bolt it on.

You get a bung for the charge pipe (just like an O2 but smaller; same idea)

Make sure if your going to use the GM sensor, it has to screw in... I dont know the part number but if you order one for a Buick Grand National, it should be the screw in style like pictured above

we use gm temp sensors on our cars. mounted in the charge pipe

we have seen charge temps of 250 degrees (non intercooled)

we used an aluminum NPT weld bung to mount it.

I'm definitely going to do this. I'd use a Honda sensor, but the fact that these thread in is nice.

I have 4 3/8" NPT weld bungs that I was going to use for a catch can project, but will only be using 1 for this. So, I have 3 left over that I have no use for. If anybody wants one, just pay me a couple of bucks for shipping. I won't be using them anyway, so you guys can have them.

According to the site they are"GM-style sensors". Not sure what to take from that. The MSD ones are only 15$ on summit. I spent the 50 shipped for one from GMPARTSDIRECT. You can also ****** one up at the dealer fro close to that price I'm sure.

Have you bothered to look for the tech sheet? The Honda IAT sensor information is in your helms manual. Find the GM one. Compare.
