Simple question, will the soft S Tech springs be a poor match for tokico illuminas as far as handling goes? My main reason for interst in these shocks is the handling improvement. Will getting some stiffer springs along with the illuminas have a major impact on handling?
i think you should go with way stiffer springs with the than the s techs with your illuminas....s techs are too soft if you want nice handling.
the illuminas can match the s-tech are the H&R sport...
to me the s-tech is meant for looks and just lowers the car...its really soft. the h&r sport is also the same to me. its probably a little stiffer but not that much greater. i had those in my integra and it was very nice for a DD. not harsh at all...gave a good drop too but i wanted lower so i decided to go coilovers.

So H&Rs are a better match?
How about just for a DD?</TD></TR></TABLE>
You'll get used to them.

Keep in mind, the spring rates on the stechs are dependant on the vehicle. eg. Stech 90-93 integra rates are only about 5% stiffer than stock. I think theyre in the 220f 120r range. stechs on some civics are stiffer by a decent amount. check your application, and compare them to the H&R. IMO, the H&R's are a great spring and have been proven many times. The illuminas can easily handle them both, the H&R's will be noticeable more firm. I had them before and liked them.
Word.
So I definately have my choice narrowed down... I'll probably go with the S-Techs actually, little bit cheaper, Tein is a good name, and the difference shouldnt be do big.

Lets put it this way. I dont want to buy illuminas if when using them with my stechs on the highest setting its till gona handle the same but with a shitty ride. I want the $400+ it will cost me to be justified with handling increase. Will the Stechs not allow that. I found H&R races for cheap, but im probably gona rub with those on.
The illuminas with S-tech will be a very smooth ride. On occasion might feel SLIGHTLY firmer than stock, but usually close to stock. If you go H&R, go with the sports. Theyre the best comprimise. For the civic app. you'l probably find the rates are pretty close betweent he two springs. Both are good quality as well.

so i cant expect much handling increse going from oem shocks to illuminas while on s techs, even if i have the illuminas on the stiffest setting??
yes you will deffinitely notice a difference between illuminas and stock shocks. i have tein s-techs and the addition of tocico Illuminas improved my cars balance and stability significantly. i always have the shocks on the stiffest setting and its a nice balance between comfort and performance IMO for my DD.
