Ragtop removal
I recently picked up an s2k and i've already got an OEM hardtop for it, but my question is, has anyone removed the convertable part of the car completely? I'm talkin wires and motor and everything. Good idea, bad idea any imput will be accepted. I porter at a local honda dealership and the tech thought it wouldn't be worth the hassle.
thanks
thanks
I've wondered about the weight saving benefits of doing just that, but to make the soft top a manual top. Some comments have been "not worth the savings" but if you can drop 20-25# up high it'll help lower the center of gravity more than losing weight low (like from an exhaust).

yea i probably could have found the answer on s2ki but like i said earlier i just picked it up and haven't had time to get on s2ki.
on a related note, friends dad works for gm and he said that the engineers decided to go with a manual top for the sky and solstice because after all the wiring and the motor they were able to save atleast 45 lbs, 45 usless lbs.
now that i know that there are people who have done it, anyone know how long it should take? a weekend? a sunday? a week?

I think the only top it has is the removable aluminum hardtop.

how about that damn motor? i tried to do a little searching around to see how long it might take...i'm guessing at least 4 hours??? (any work i perform on a car is done slowly, so i don't screw anything up)
oh buddie trust me keep your hard top on...when i purchased my S2k the retard that i bought it from decided to cut the plastic out and put in a thicker plastic so you cant make it convertible...then when i made it convertible ofcourse it broke...well the dealer wants 240 for a new back window...but 1500 just for labor...ha ha everything needs to come out...from your seats back needs to be completley stripped...so not worth it, unless you hate your hardtop i would just keep it on, i want to go hardtop so bad ha ha but i dont want to go back to doing all that work again. Good luck boss.
yea i do know that it is made to fit right over the softtop and as of now in the spring time i will begin attending various track days as well as purchasing a supercharger to compliment the "gifts" i recieve from the brown truck santa

wtf....I live in Aurora. Global warming means we enjoy a LOT of top down time around here. I'm not one of those weird polar bear guys either. Remember when it went from -20 to +20 degrees? There was a guy around my house in an eclipse with the top down. I mean it was 40 degrees warmer than the previous day....BUT IT WAS STILL 20 DEGREES!!
That's not how I roll. I only put the top down when I can 100% enjoy it. 70+ degree sunny days...or the BEST is when it's warm at night..or if you're driving on the highway. If you go out by starved rock on a warm night, it's a really cool drive with really nice curvy roads. I had the top down this year ranging from april till October. It was like 90 in october this year.
I was thinking about getting a hard top, but I'd never take out the soft top. Sometimes you wanna go topless like the popular girl in school. Then, when you get to your destination, you wanna put your top up so birds wont crap on your seats and theives wont steal your "WHAM!" CD off your seat.
Definitely not worth taking out your soft top.

I'm the same way when it comes to driving with the top down, i'll only do it if it's nice, but the more and more i think about removing the soft top, i keep finding reasons not to. oh well, i've got time i could probaly use that extra weight for the winter.
