Default CEL P0740 transmission clutch control solenoid

car: 97 EX auto with 138K miles

well i've had this problem of my CEL coming on to give me a P0740 code which points to the transmission clutch control solenoid (TCC). it only came on once when i was "power braking" during rain (stepping on gas and brake at the same time to control skid) and once when i was climbing about a 6% grade incline with 2 other people in the car at 55mph.

i don't think i need a new tranny as it shifts rather smoothly, even when cold. the tranny fluid level is good (a bit on the high side actually but will that matter?). any insight fellas?

this is my first OBDII automatic car .

Reset the CEL, if not already done, and see if it comes back on.
I had to deal with this nightmare recently to get my 96 LX inpected. If the light stays on, the simple answer is to replace the tranny and torque converter.
I did about 4 drain and refills with Honda ATF, tried 3 different lockup solenoids, cleaned the speed sensors, checked connections and wiring. I even resorted to using Lucas tranny conditioner as a last resort. I finally got the light to stay off long enough to get the inspection done on the last solenoid replacement. Two days.

If the light comes back on. Report back.
