Default Guess theres a first time for everything...

Well, I got my first speeding ticket yesterday (31st). First of all, I was speeding and I know it, but... I was coming home from work down a main road (about 100yds. from my house) and I had two cars in front of me and three behind me. We were all going 45 in a 30 zone. I turn in, pull into my driveway, and get out of my car. As I am walking to my door a biker cop pulls in my driveway with no lights or siren. Says he caught me at the road to the developement before my house, which is like 50 yds away. Said he paced me for 6 ft (the ticket says that!) to tell I was speeding. Gave me a ticket for $107.50 .

The funny thing is that I was driving my beater Saab, not my R. Everyone was harrassing me that I got caught in my yellow R and I told them it was the crap Saab. haha.

Now, I was just wondering what you all think about fighting it and whether or not he handled it correctly.... To keep it R related:

This is exactly the way it looked, Saab was there and the door was open to show the R... probably saw the R and assumed I was a dumb ricer on the weekend

The garage, but with R on the right bay and !

I thought once you got in your driveway they had no authority anymore? Guess thats a rumor. As for fighting it - all depends on how your traffic court system works. I know in CT if you faught it no matter what it always got knocked down. If it was bs enough it got thrown out all together. I got a ticker once for driving too fast for condition. It was 1 pm, sunny, perfectly visibility, and 85 degrees out. Judge laughed and tossed it.

I don't know where in PA you are but I was doing 100 in a 65 on the Penn Turnpike on my bike.
Cop gave me a 89 in a 65 so I wouldn't lose my license and then when they saw that I made the trip to contest, because let's be real who doesn't speed on the PA turnpike, the cop let me go with a no ticket violation.

i wonder how he can pace you with 2 cars between you but not pull the 2 cars behind you over?

always fight it, even if you just have to pay the fine and get no points its worth it.

If the ticket says he paced you for 6ft then that means he spent 0.1 seconds pacing you at 45mph. I had no idea that humans were capable of determining a vehicle's speed in less time that it takes to blink.

Hello... Ticket King of the world here checking in LOLz. I am also a PA resident.

Do not plead guilty and pay the fine, take it to court. I have fought every ticket i have ever been issued and won with the exception of my bullshit VA incident. George, we don't need to discuss this anymore .

They will reduce it man, if not let you go free. This i promise you. Especially if this was your first ticket. Just be prepared with some words to say about why you are there and that you care about your driving record etc.

Definitely go to court though!

I would have walked inside and yelled to the cop, "I gotta' drop a deuce real quick man, I'll be right back."

And just sit down and start playing Halo.

Not a rumor. They can do it if they are in "pursuit." Gray area of the law.

guess he needed to write that last ticket of the month right before his shift ended...probably had a personal goal of XXX ammount of speeding tickets for October

You should go to court...can't make it any worse for you than it already is (unless PA makes you pay a court fee if found guilty). I have always pled guilty w/explaination. The judge will ask each person there to stand and plead...those that plead no contest or guilty just leave and pay the fine...then the judge will hear each person's explaination for those that are left. (been to court in 3 seperate states on traffic citations...worked the same way in every state...MD, SC, GA).

Also...if the court date they assign you is inconvienent, be sure to ask for an extension...make it as painless on yourself as possible.

If you had been in the R, I would have given you a ticket for painting the word INTEGRA red on your back bumper.

go to court and see what they do. CT will lower the ticket or drop it pretty much all the time

Subpoena the officer to appear in court. Also ask for a Discovery hearing, it may be called something different where you are, but it is basically a hearing where the officer must provide a written description of what happened and it must be reviewed by a judge before the court date.

This usually gets you off, because the officer must take the time out of his day to write a 2 page report about the ticket, if he doesn't, the ticket gets dropped. Same with the subpoena, he must take the time out of his day to go to a courthouse and wait in the room for hours for your case, then testify about what happened. Usually they don't show.

Either way, you have a good chance of getting off without paying a dime.

Wow, sounds like a waste of everyone's time... I would have laughed and made fun of him about the 6 feet comment, what a tool.

I honestly thought unless they pulled you over on a public street they cannot give you a ticket on private property....

thats a BS ticket, if you decide to fight it just say you were following traffic and that there were three cars behind you two in front. Also explain you were an easy target for the officer, because you pulled into your driveway, any of those 5 cars should have been pulled over. You will get off as long as you didn't admit to the officer that you knew you were speeding........they usually ask you "did you know you were speeding?" if you say yes then he can use that against you. Cops are jerks now adays, thats not police work thats harassing people.

I would look into the PA laws and see what the minium pacing amount needed....let him explain that 2 the judge....glad to see our tax dollars put to use...
