Went to the track last night...
Heres my times:
R/T: 1.228
60': 2.398
330: 6.396
1/8: 9.787
MPH: 72.43
1000: 12.708
1/4: 15.181
MPH: 93.12
That was on a stock 93 vtec prelude. I am pissssssssssed off! I really wanted to get into the 14's, I know I could have. Any driving tips or ideas that would do it? Oh, btw, when I made that run it was about 80 degrees out.

well if it makes you feel anybetter thats normally what I get...I used to have bald nitto 555r's on kinda hard to put the power down..You probaly get mad wheel hop and spin. Still a nice run on my nitrous I only get 8.80 in the 1/8.

Yeah, I know it was a normal run, but I wanna be better then normal, I had mad wheel hop in first and then when I shifted into second not only did I chirp, but I like completely burned out which didnt help to much. infact, it was so violent in first that a) my radar detector torpedoed into my face and my stereo flew out and hit my hand. I need 14's!
Edit: One more thing; I heard that in different gears you should shift at different RPM's...like you shoudl shift higher in first then you in in 2nd and 4rd...is this true? If anyone has the perfect shift points throughout all of the gears, that would be great!

every car has diff shift points. learn your own car. no one can tell you when to shift.
if you get your 60' time down to 2.2x you will prob hit 14's. your trap is there, just need to work on the launch.

The Prelude VTEC makes peak power at 6800 rpms...so after that you're losing power. Here's the way I do it:
1st - Ride it all the way to the redline, you have to if you want to make sure you stay in VTEC through the 1-2 shift
2nd - Shift at 7100 or so...you can go redline, but the car pulls really well in 3rd so you're better off shifting earlier
3rd - Depending on the run, I will finish right at the rev limiter, or I will shift to 4th
Knock your 60ft down to 2.2 and you'll be in the 14s in no time. Learn to launch better, however track conditions will always have a big effect on that. try launch around 4000 and work the gas and clutch to get rid of the wheel hop. Good Luck

those are decent times. Work on ur reaction times, and try to get ur 60fts down. Maybe less wheels spin or u could even try lowering the psi in your tires. That should get u into the 14's.
He asked for tips, and your flaming me for giving him the answer? Who the hell are you?
Trap time is not directly related to 1/4 ET. Here's ME in the 14's with near 2.4s 60 and a 92MPH trap.

Lookee me I'm a drag racer! For a guy that has a lot of 1/4 mile times in his sig, you're pretty ignorant.

Really, Dont you think with his 93 MPH trap time, he would be in the 14's with a 2.2 60'f time............All of your post was jibber-jabber.....Thinkin you know how to drive.......Lookie me im a drag racer.........Tellin the boy how to shift and ****.....Anyone with a 93MPH trap and a 2.2 60' time is in the high 14's.......Duh

well get rid of the wheel hop and you'll be good to go. what's your suspension set up?
What track, pacific race way? How much was it?
I am no expert with drag racing by any means...but why does he need to work on his reaction time to get a better 1/4 mile time? I'd say, screw the reaction time and the car next to you. Just concentrate on launching the car and shifting...who cares if you beat the car next to you or lose, after all you are looking to see what your car can do right?

What tires were you running at the track anyway?
stock 4th gen h22's are rated at 15.1 on the quarter mile, so it looks like you are a pretty good driver if you are cutting out the same times as the guys that test the cars. some guys do break 14s with stock h22 (assuming NO mods or weight reduction) and im not doubting them at all but sometimes the track plays a role in how fast/slow your times are. anyways, point being it is VERY easy for you to hit 14s, i think with a little more practice you should be able to cut 14s. you may want to think about deflating your tires a bit, that always helps out a little. with any simple bolt-on mod you should be in 14s easily.
Question, whether you react sooner or later, I still don't see how the 1/4 mile time will be effected. The timing does not start until you cross the timing device and stops when you cross the 1/4 mile mark. I guess you are saying that in competition the timing starts as soon as the green light goes off? Please clarify. Thanks.
nfeidler3, thanks for backing me up. People just don't read what I post...I said if the guy wants to improve 1/4 mile time he doesn't need to react faster...but someone is "knocking on my head" because he/she didn't read what I posted. Yes, I think by now I would know that if a car leaves the line first it would have a better chance of finishing first.

I think that in the first couple gears you should shift right at the redline to take advantage of the lower gearing, even though the torque has dropped off significantly by then (it still pulls harder than the next gear). In the higher gears, though, drag has more of an effect, so it would probably be better to shift closer to the torque peak.
Just eyeball your tac; what rpm does your needle just start to piddle off? By 3rd and forth gear i shift my integ at 6k to keep the needle moving. Maybe that's just my tired old engine, but i know i make sense...
