ITR or MS3 or RSX-S
Hey All,
Early next year (or when my current car sells) I'm going to be buying another car (I'm just sick of not having fun while driving). My choices are below:
ITR (used) - I kinda want a 98 so 12-15K with varying miles.
Mazdaspeed3 (new) - 2008 - $26,000K LOADED (HID's, Navi, etc....)- $23,000K base
RSX-S (used) - $20,000-$21,000 for a 2005 with about 30K miles
This car will be used as a daily driver but be garaged overnight. Which would you go with?
There is also an option of keeping the Mazda and getting an ITR as a second car OR even saving up more and getting a used elise as a second car.
Elise - $29,000-$32,000 used with decent miles.
other - 05 S4 ($30,000), used 06-07 sti ($25,000-$27,000)
WWHTTRFD? (what would honda tech type R forum do?)

I'm reminded of the phrase: "They always come back"
I know which one I would pick but I am not you, and I am not in your shoes. If I could only have one car, I'd pick the R. However, I would want a daily to accompany it. It really is up to you and your situation.

The only cars on that list that I would personally get are the Type R, and the Elise. Not for a daily driver though. I've owned the RSX-S, and I wasn't that impressed ... and it got stolen.
I now have the R, and the ONLY car I will ever replace it with (for track/fun) is the Exige.
Good luck on your choice

Ive driven all three, and the ITR is the most fun, but outdated and lacks modern features and sucks as a daily car due to security concerns. The MS3 is a nice car to cruise in with all the features and such, and has good power (though I HATED the throttle response when starting from a complete stop, and it falls on its face on the top end but I assume this can be remedied with a reflash/tune of some sort). The RSX would be my last choice because its not as fun as the ITR, and it doesnt give you as many options as a loaded MS3.

sti as a second car?!?!?!!? why the hell would that be a second car? Its got 4 doors, AWD, plenty of trunk space?? I'm curious why you said that.

I would class the R32 in the same catagory as the MS3 in terms of nice to cruise in, but I have driven my friends R32 and it is NOT very reassuring to drive hard. The suspension sucked and had no driver feedback whatsoever. That car is overhyped IMO. Though the seats and interior are nice. R32 would be last on my list of the four cars discussed so far. And the drive by wire response sucked. I hate VW though so I may be biased

R32 is so far superior to the rsx-s and ms3 that its laughable. torquey v6, AWD, fantastic interior, and good exterior styling. Its a great sporty, yet low key daily driver. Braking and handling it absolutely kills an rsx. MS3 actually has very good handling.
RSX is a reliable, very good looking, sporty fwd car. I personally am tired of fwd cars, and would never classify them as a really "fun car" unless it was an itr. I'm also in the position of trying to get a new car, and ITR is the only fwd car I'll consider.

I disagree somewhat, the R32 handling sucks *** and feels like a giant tugboat. The braking is good though. And add some Porsche brake calipers and rotors to the mix and it stops on a dime. Its weight holds its braking back somewhat. It does make a great daily though.

You say the handling sucks ***... yet it holds its own with evos and sti's (seriously). I'm basing this off individuals who have owned both cars (evo and r32, or sti and r32)... and tracked them.
RTW DC2R - do you not think that maybe your opinion is based upon the fact that you weren't used to the car. One or two drives really never tells the whole story.

I vote for keeping the Mazda and getting an ITR. Or even selling the Mazda and getting a cheaper beater to accomodate the ITR.
For a daily driver, though, I'd have to go with an RSX or MS3. Probably the MS3 for more room.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Holds its own against Evo's and Sti's? You gotta be kidding me. They're not even in the same league.

Possibly, but I drove the car enough to get a good feel for it. Also I have owned an EVO MR and can tell you that even an STI doesnt compare to the EVO MR handling. The MR feedback is instant and crisp, even on snow tires. And there is no way the R32 is even close to either IMO.

E39 M5's are at an excellent price now. Keep in mind, it will be difficult to find a bank that will loan you that amount of money for a vehicle thats 8 years old, and nearly 80000 miles.

FINALLY some one with a good idea (BMW above).
For a dedicated Track Car I would get ITR or EXIGE. But security is an issue with the ITR anywhere, especially northern NJ and around NYC.
For a realistic car that is great DD and a menace on the track, not to mention a status symbol in some locales (Northern NJ).... go for a Beamer.
I drive an X3 (bmw suv) and it is an incredible ride. I would consider a 1 series BMW due next year

You have to remember, just because you can buy a car, doesn't mean you can afford it. If the OP can afford the constant rear tire change ($$), maintenance ($$$$ Inspection I/II), etc. then maybe that could be a good option. If he plans to track the car at all, I could only imagine what the costs of that would be. And iirc, didn't pre-2002 M5's have carbon build-up issues?
It is my strong opinion that you cannot have one car that will do everything well. Get a car for daily driving and another for weekend/track duties. I know the ITR is very capable on the track and DD duties, but there are drawbacks, theft being the main one.
Beater + ITR (.....or S2000)
BTW, it's "bimmer"

ITR for a DD in NJ?? Nooo way. You stop at the store for milk and cookies, and no R when you get out. For a DD you need something you can leave in parking lots for hours on end.
If I didn't already enjoy my DD, I'd personally be looking at an RSX-S or Civic Si sedan. The Mazda option looks good too
