Okay well the weather out here in Iowa has been really hot lately and im sure that just kills my already bad clutch and im sure my tranny is in bad shape too.

Now the history of my car is really unknown I have did alot of tuning to it and its been really reliable for a car with 200,000 miles but Ive yet to do a tranny fluid change. Now I always new my clutch would be gone prob. somtime this summer and Its prettty much here, its been really chattery lately when I disengage the clutch and has always been kinda hard to get into gear, kinda becuase its like the clutch isnt even engaging becuase the pressure plate is prob. fried. i used to be able to get 2nd gear sracth but that didnt last long and now it almost always slips everytime I race.(which Ive stopped since this has been so bad) right now the car sits in my garage, and I have to work soon Ive got my parents car but I dnot know how long they will be generous.

I pulled the car into the garage today after kind of checking out how its been doing and it just pretty much started sputtering and eventually died, I was in 2nd gear pulling in slowly but I pulled it out into neutral and it still died I turned the car back on and everything so I know it will run BUT FOR NOT MUCH LONGER.....

I called a guy that does tranny work and can do my clutch for about 100-150 as long as I bring the parts. NO biggie, but do you think thats all it is??? just the clutch and pressure plate, ive got a descent amount of money for a new clutch job so Id buy somthing performance but just like stage 1 and maybe a new flywheel....think it could be my trannY?

I have to work like everyday of this week in the morning and at night so I gotta fig. this out fast, how much do other places charge for a clutch change?

 

New Cluches are supposed to be expensive to put in. But I saw them replace the clutch on a CRX on SpeedChannel and it didn't look that hard. Basically all they did was drain the fluids, jack the car up and then get a tranny jack, unbolt the tranny casing, drop that down, unbolt the clutch and pressure plate and all that and it was like 3 bolts only. It would seem if you had the tools to do it it would be really easy. They also had to take the axels off but that was easy.

 

if you have someone that will do it for $150, i would call that a pretty good deal. i would not think twice about doing my own clutch. but if you are afraid to touch it, let someone else take responsibilty. haha. it should be just your clutch, if you have the money, put in a flywheel too. it will make the car a lot more fun. good luck, don't worry.

 

yeah, well in the meantime I did a search and read about everyone having clutch problems and what occured, basically heres what it does.

If I really get on it and redline it will slip usually through 2 to 3 or 3 to 4, not a big deal I lay off and hammer it again.

It squeaks, (heard alot of clutches do this) but when I start to disengage it at the friction point and start moving forward or backwards in 1st or R, it will start to scratch and sound really bad. Then it will drive like normal....

It also has been giving me problems getting into gear, somtimes Ill engage the clutch and it just feels like mush.....and Ill stop the car turn it off put it in gear and turn it on the car will skip a bit then be fine...somtimes if im at a stop light and im in neutral Ill go from N to 1st and it just wont go...so I swivel it around a bunch and eventually it pushes into 1st, its kinda like trying to go into gear without pushing hte pedal in, like your forcing it in which leads me to believe the pressure plate is fried becuase its like not even engaging.

I really hope its only teh clutch, how do i know if its like the Slave cylinder? throwout bearing? other krap, I jsut want a nice easy clutch change and tranny fluid change.

BTW id do it myself but I HAVE NO TIME....I work full time and Id rather have a prof. rough up his hands for a couple 100.

 

I think ill do a tranny fluid change tomorrow, what kinda should I use reg. motor Oil 5w30 ??

Where hte hell is the tranny drain bolt?? and how many qrts does it take 3 Ive heard and seen in my manual, this might help with the gearing problem.

 

Well I do have my friends SI tranny his car was totalled I have the whole engine, but I dont really need it for now....well...I dont know okay im descently mechanicly inclined......

He has a SI motor, tranny, everything in good shape, would I be better off getting that off of him and doing the swap....but see I dont have time to dick around and screw up. It would need to get done in atleast a week?? I should be able to pull to motors and install one that just bolts in in a weeks time right??

Damnt im pissed, its not even like my car isnt running but I know its not going to soon if I dont do somthing about it!
