Tach Question????

I am trying to install a tach in my 1990 Civic Dx. I have a d16y8 motor. Which wire off the distributor drives the tach?? Any help would be appreciated.

you have something like an autometer or something...
get the signal from the service port on the drivers side of the engine bay!

Yea sure!
Drivers side area were the group of connectors are near the clutch reservoir in that group there should be a single connector with one blue/silver i think it is wire going to it with a rubber protector over it remove rubber on connector and i used a fork connecter to obviously with the tach signal wire which is what, green then i connected it there then tapped for power via the under dash fuse box there are some ports above there also for power! Ground that bastard and your done!

That helps. I think however that this wire is the same as the one behind the dash/cluster. I want to go directly off the distributor because I heard it is more accurate.

lol your going to run it off the service port why even tap wires you do not have too?
the port i am telling you to use is the one honda disigned to be used to test the rpm's
either way your choice!

Arite so I checked again. Could it be the blue and yellow wire with silver dots every 2-3 cm. That's all I see in the group near the clutch reservoir. Some1 please help.

It should be solid blue. What engine and body wire harnesses are you using?

I'm using a mix-up of both the 1990 Dx harness and the d16y8 Harness. There's a solid blue one coming off the distributor can I use that.?? Is the solid blue one where richard described it because I can't seem to find it.

Not sure what car you got but on the drivers side were the group of wires are next to the clutch res located there is a black piece of metal that holds some connectors ok
Now in that pile there should be a single wire with a rubber cover removes the rubber cover and you will expose a connector that right there is the RPM signal tester use that to get your RPM signal ok!

Yea that's it. You could also tap into it under the dash if you want.

I dont think the EFs have that test connector. I know they dont have a clutch reservoir.
Yea that's it. You could also tap into it under the dash if you want.

I don't think EF's have the test connector either. An you're right there is no clutch reservoir. By under the dash do you mean behind the cluster??

Yea that would be good. If the dx has a connector on the wire harness for cruise (i dont know if it does) that would be easier to get to.

So yea i'm still having problems with the tach. I wired it in to the blue wire on the distributor and it reads way too high. I clipped the orange and brown wires like the instructions told me to and it got even higher. Any suggestions??
