Default fuel sump designs? What is your thought?

I'm going to be doing my fuel sump in a week or two here and plan on building it. I was wondering why there are only box style fuel sumps out there as opposed to cutting a tube diagonally in half and capping off the ends? Is there something wrong with a rounded type sump like that? I can build one out of sheet as well but was just thinking it would be easier to just cut a piece of straight tube I already had laying around.

something like this:

Paul, on a drag car, you probably wouldn't notice a difference. On a road race car, the side to side sloshing would be almost as bad as a stock tank setup.
If you go this route, you may want to do a baffle of some sort that covers part of the sump to keep fuel from sloshing back and over it.

isnt that why u supposed to drill holes where the sump fits, rather then cut 1 large hole ?

that tube sump isnt a good idea, you wont get the capacity in the sump like a large rectangle shaped sump(full-race sump is too small ) you may get cavitation or starve the pump on certain occasions.

look at what ATL does for their intank fuel "surge" tanks... it'll give you some good ideas.

I've already ordered the fullblown setup. I was planning on running a magnafuel pump this saves me a ton.

Just modified a stock tank for road racing. Removed the stock baffle and cup setup. Replaced it with a diamond shaped box with trap doors on four sides. This way any fuel comes in and can't leave. Be interested to see if it solves my problem.
