Default SSR Competition offset, etc.

Search came up with **** like "SSR Comp look alikes..." bah...

I have a 96CX and I want to get some 15*7 inch SSR competitions. I plan on dropping the car ~ 2.5 - 3 inches. This car is mostly for autox and road racing.

Is anyone here running this rim?

if so...
What offset?
205 or 195?

Would anyone recommend another rim for AutoX and RR? I was also looking at sw388's, TE37's, and kosei K1's

Thanks

The offset is +42 as avaliable from The Tire Rack.

The wheel will accomodate either a 195/50/15 quite nicely or a 205/50/15 as well.

I ran them on my car briefly for an auto-X event (borrowed from a friend) with some Yokohama AVS-Intermediates (no longer avaialble) and I loved the combo.

They look bad-***, they weigh 9lbs. and are semi-forged so they are pretty strong too.

I would like to have a set myself one day.

You've got some pretty diverse wheels in there. What kind of price range are you looking at?

I'd say that SW388/Desmond Regamasters are excellent wheels, but they cost like $385.00 a wheel! Also I don't think a 15x7 is available easily in the Regas - SPOON only in 15x6.5.

Volks are nice too, but more pricey than the SSR Type C/Competitions.

Kosei K1 wheels are definately cheaper, but also heavier. They weigh 13-14lbs. for a 15'' wheel. I think they are nice, but a tad heavy for the price.

I hate to suggest the ever-popular Rotas, but they are popular for many reasons. A few being that they can be had for like $400 a set and they weigh onyl 12lbs. I have a set of 15x6.5 Rota Cirrcuit 8 wheels on my 1992 Civic that I auto-X and street drive and I love them.

If the wheels are for track only, then by all means a fully forged $300+ per wheel set would be fine I guess. But if you are going to drive on them daily, consider road hazards, THEFT, etc. and you might want to get a cheaper more easily replacable wheel.

The SSR Competitions cost like $250-$285 per wheel if I'm not mistaken. I think it;s a damn good deal for the money.

The SW388 and Regas weigh 8.5lbs. but cost $100 more per wheel.

And here's the wheel:

The Tire Rack lists the wheel at $299 per for a 15x7 inch wheel.

Kosei K1 goes for $129-$139 per wheel on that site too. For the money though, the Rota is lighter and about $95 per wheel.

i just ordered some bronse 5 zigen becketts
they weigh a little more than 10 pounds
they are about 150 a wheel

update
well the shop just called me and siad theres 2 versions of the becketts
cast and forged and unfortunatly they led me to believe i was getting the some light *** wheels for 600

today they call me and tell me that theres cast and forged and i am not getting the light wheels i expected
so now im screwed
i either get the heavier cast wheels that are probly heavier than my fake spoons, that would totaly defeat the purpose
or spend 600 more on the forged ones

Yeah I think I'm going to go with C8's as well. I love the look of the sw388 wheel, but it's getting played out really fast, and since the C8 weighs the same in the 15, and looks damn fine... Now I just have to find the lowest price and decide on a color.

Tein HA + Azenis + Rotas should create wonderful sounds from underneath the car...next comes the power.

Thanks again for the help EH2.

broke 1:

Did you get the SSR Comp's from Jesse? Didn't he have a set on his black EG, or was that your car all along?

Someday I will sell my 3 sets of wheels and get the SSR Competitions

I have 15x7" Kosei K1s with 45mm offset and they rub on the inner lip of the wheel. So I purchased some 3mm spacers for the rears and now they are fine. So 42mm offset woudl work.
