just got 99 ex and want some suggestions
Hey all I just got a 99 Civic Ex and i was hoping for an SI but my parents decided to get me this and i am still very pleased. I was just wondering what would be some things you guys would suggest that i could do to get my cars performance up so i could hang with SI's/GSR's... That's all i really want i don't want to make it super fast...i'm planning to get 2.25 custom piping w/ a tip i ordered and an AEM cai and some aftermarket header...if you guys could suggest some things i'd be very grateful...thanks
p.s- i wou ld like to stay away from f/i and nitrous

Dont spend all the money for the motor... It's not gonna help with CAI, Exhaust, and HEader... I have experience used this on my D16 98 Civic.. IF I were you, Im going to spend money for new coilover system, nice JDM rims, CArbon Fiber hood, Nice stereo headunit and Civic Type R Front lip. Also If I save some extra money, I will spend new B16 or B18 motor.. Dang I wish I would go back and do it all over again because I have Greddy Turbo on my D16... WEll It all good...
I have a 99 ex coupe also wih aem cai and DC cat-back. The aem cai made the most difference out of the two. The cat-back helped out a tiny bit up top, nothing great. Go and get a custom 2.25 inch cat-back made at some muffler shop with whatever muffler u want. It should be cheaper, by about 200 bux, compared to $500+ cat-backs. I hear a header should make a difference also, which is what im getting next. truthfully though, your not gonna be beatin any GSR out their, unless they cant drive for ****. After that, try the zex cam, which makes about 8-13 Hp and their only about 300 bux. A lot of people have this cam on the honda d series board and have good things to say about it. A couple dyno'd it themselves. Check the site out, very helpful and its ALL about the D series motor, u dont have to worry about people telling u to do swap, instead of answering your questions. http://pub34.ezboard.com/bhondadseries.
Get used to people tellin u to swap on this site real quick as soon as u mention u have any car with a sohc motor. People need to realize that not everyone has $3000+ that their gonna need for a full, legit swap or complete Fi kit to dump into their car all at once. It's a hobby and some can afford maybe $200-$300 parts at a time. Its all for fun and to make any differnece.
Have fun with your car bro

get ready to spend some money if you want to hang with GSR's. i spent over $2500 on my motor alone and SI's still beat me. get turbo like me, then you can probrably hang. but don't let people discourage you about fixing up a d16. i talked to a guy with a 94 ex with the greddy turbo kit that ran low 14's on street tires. bolt on's are not going to get you anywhere close to a GSR
