Zenki - early (before)
Kouki - later (after)

I guess the 96-98 could be called zenki and 99-00 called kouki.

They are nissan terms. Actually to explain it better, Zenki and Kouki were actually two variants of rpS14 240sx's. The Zenki was referred to the earlier years that the S14 was manufactured (1995-1996). The Kouki S14's were the later year S14's (1997-1998).

The same thing with the rpS13 model 240sx's. Except one different variant. They were divided with the earlier years called Zenki aka Pignose front end (1989-1990). Then the different variant for the later model S13, Chuki (1991-1994).

Hope that answers your question.

Yeah ...it just means a mid-generation change.

The EK is still an EK...just with a different front end and some other cosmetic peices.

Just like an AP1 and AP2. A mid-generation change.

However, with hondas, you can say "EK4" or "EK9" or "AP1" or "AP2". So you don't need the kouki or zenki terms.

The S14 was just called "S14" regardless of year. So was the S13. The S13 was especially confusing. 89-94 for coupes and hatchbacks in the U.S.

89-98 for hatchback S13s in Japan. 89-94 for coupe S13s. This is because they were sold as either the silvia (coupe) or 180sx (hatch) models. Different model names in Japan.

Anyway...this is getting way too confusing.

Honda calls their chassis' by different names all together for model changes. EK4/9. AP1/2. etc.

In the U.S., I think they're called like EH something...or whatever. Read your VIN.

Holy ****, like the JDM trend isn't invasive enough.

All I gotta see is 70% of this forum start throwing around those terms and I'd officially be able to say I've seen it all.

Um, no.

EK4 refers to all '96-00 Civic 3dr and 4dr (but not 2dr) models with a B16A engine.

EK9 refers to a '96-00 Civic 3dr with a B16B engine.

They are not sequential in any way.

lol, it is not nissan specific.

Yeah, I've heard this used for Hondas too. Not just Nissans.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by B serious &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Yeah ...it just means a mid-generation change.

</TD></TR></TABLE>
EK4 and EK9 do not denote different years. They do denote trim changes between the Civic Type-R and the SiR/VTi models. The EK9 is always a hatchback and the EK4 can be either a hatchback or a sedan.

Except that EK4 and EK9 only mean it's a '95-'01 Honda Civic. There is misinformation out there that leads people to believe that all EK4s are '96-'98 and all EK9s are '99-'00. This is of course untrue.

The EK4 (SiR, VTi, Jordan, VTi-S, VTi-R, etc) runs from the entire 6th gen span. This can include any assortment of years from 1995 to 2001 depending on the market. The EK9 (Civic Type-R, Civic Type-RX and Civic Type-R Race aka N1) ran from 1997 to 2000.

In a way, yes.

Though Honda Japan does often refer to production dates by the month and year, individual vehicles sold are usually just referred to as being of the production year that they were built. So though a Civic might have been built May of 1995, it would just be called a 1995 Civic, not a 95.5 Civic.

For those who might be confused, that means my 1998 Honda Civic EX coupe (EJ8) from America, had it been sold in Japan would be called a 1997 because it was built in the summer of the 1997. Here in the US we go by "model years" instead though. A production year and a model year do not always match up.
