ZC guy can't drive... ZC should mop the floor with the D16A6... unless your friend lied and it's not stock.

Huh? That's a bad generalization. So using this logic, DOHC vs pushrod V8 the DOHC cam should win, right?

ZC is overhyped folks. It's a decent and cheap swap, but I've seen sooo many people throw away a D16a6, put in a ZC and have a car that isn't any faster.

I've even seen bone stock 100K mile D16a6's dyno just over 100hp. D16a6 is a good motor and it takes to mods very well. Plus, parts are cheap and plentiful.

My experiences in my Si...

I ran my SOHC... the quickest I could get on the track in my home town (slightly uphill at the end) was a 16.2.

I put a ZC in. Headed to the track on the hottest most humid night (could barely see through haze) all other factors in the car were the same, and ran a 15.4....

You tell me which is quicker. The bottom line is the ZC may be overhyped, but I've had both (actually I've had a few SOHC motors), and I can tell you the ZC is much more motor than the SOHC.

ok, i was talking about a DOHC zc vs. a SOHC D16A6 in a crx. Not any V8 stuff.

ZC weight more about 100 lbs more..... People just swap out SOHC's cause every one else does.

You fix upa a SOHC and get good traction itll take DOHC Vtec's

Dont get me wrong ZC's are sweet but they are ment TO BE TURBOED

I also agree with the person that said the D16a6 engines are underrated in terms of HP output. I've seen a good amount of dyno's on this engine in stock form and in all cases, they put out at least 100 HP to the wheels and also close to 100 in torque. I really think the real numbers for a D16a6 is about 115-120 HP and about 110 torque to the flywheels.

I mean i know the ZC has more power, but the D16 is not that bad if you fix it up right. I mean if you get the basic bolt ons with a head package, it should easily be putting down mid 14's all day. And if you upgrade to some better tires and get a lightened flywheel, you could possibly be hitting 13's. Now when i mean a head package i mean a racing head with a port matched intake manifold and throttle bodie along with a racing cam and chipped ECU. You might think it will cost an arm and a leg, but you can get all this from Gude for about $1500. This is probably the route i will take.

I would avoid gude products at all costs. I had two cams from them for a d16a6. they were regrinds. THe worst worksmanship I have ever seen. I wish I had taken pictures of them. both, after about 5k on them had severe uneven wear on the cam lobes. the lobes should have been smooth all the way around as it spins on the valve bucket. there were huge dark spots almost covering the total width of the lobe where dirt collected from an uneven cut. This was on both cams!!

I have also heard a lot of bad things about their overbored throttlebodies. Uneven, and the throttle plate sticks.

Gude also told me that their head porting doesn't stand up to turbocharged applications.

Their ads in the car magazines are starting to grow. I wonder how many people are buying their crap work.

cheap porting can have a reverse affect in HP and Tourque. It is not mnaking th hole as big as you can but correctly angled etc.

well, as far as the ZC being faster than a SOHC is kind of a toss up...just depends on what SOHC you have...faster than an A6 ..yes...faster than Z6/Y8 ...no....but as far as that ZC getting smoked by your frenz A6....are you sure your fren knew the guy with the ZC wanted to race??...hahaha....that'd be fucked up if he just drove normally and your fren was barely pulling...hahahha...

Well, the Z6/Y8 engines are VERY close to the ZC... like 3hp less for the Y8 and 5 less for the Z6. They should be nearly identical in performance, especially if the sohc is running off a proper ECU.
