brand new '08 civic, shaking engine?
hey friends, new member here. :-D got a brand new '08 civic LX the other day.

something i noticed after i took a 30 mile trip on the highway; i popped the hood to check the tranny fluid while the engine was hot and i noticed something that i had never seen before with a running car. the whole engine was vibrating. however, the harmonic balancer and/or tensioner/pulley was holding true.
is this how it should be? gonna give a call over to the dealer tomorrow and try to schedule an appointment
thanks friends :-)

and this won't end up wearing the main bearings or harm the car in any way, shape or form?
i can't imagine after 100,000miles how bad it would be rocking if this is how it is at 100miles

anyone else with an opinion on the matter?
edit: since i can't post more than 5 messages within 24 hours (????????)
to reply to the guy who asked if this is my 'first car'
no, its not, but it is my first honda
just came from a cadillac with a northstar engine. 4.6 liter 300 hp to something that looks like a milk carton :-P
didn't realize they were meant to visibly shake
what good does that do for the engine?

Did you perhaps have a 6 or 8 cylinder car before?
Inline 4's tend to not be as well balanced as 6 or 8 cylinder engines. I don't mean balanced as in poorly designed, but something along the lines of the detonation pattern compared to a v6 or v8 that has the ability to have multiple detonations in quicker succession compared to a 4 cylinder car. There's a term for it, and I've forgotten it. But basically any 4 cyl engine is going to have quirks a V8 wouldn't.

couple more questions:
how smooth is an automatic civic supposed to shift? its definitely noticeable when it comes out of first and second. not sure if its meant to be like butter or if its normal to feel it push into the next gear.
the e-brake.. are you supposed to see that metal ball underneath it? is it really not meant to be centered on the console? is it supposed to be aligned to the left?
and, is the e-brake/shifter console piece supposed to look unfinished like that? mine looks like it has metallic streaks on it.
