Is my Civic toast?
Disclaimer: I am no mechanic and have very limited knowledge with cars.
I was going through the process of testing the FITV (based on some info I found in another forum) yesterday and I went to remove the coolant hose directly opposite the FITV which is attached to what I assume is the engine block; the main part which houses lots of important stuff, under the injectors. I took a couple photo's, but haven't downloaded them from the camera as of yet. I will post them if necessary. Anyway, I got my pliers and began tugging on the clip to remove the hose to get it out of my way and the nipple it was attached to had rusted through and came completely off. Is this fixable or am I looking at replacing the whole deal?

Drill and tap the hole, put in a screw in fitting that will reduce down to the size of the hose, seal it good, go to a plumbing store or go buy a new FITV.
Dude, a mechanics air hose barbed fitting, threads on one end and barbs on the other, slip the hose on, its tight, its not coming off again, a lightly tightened hose clamp and some sealant on the treads, done, most hardware stores have this, drill and tap still but it works.
That doesn't sound too awfully hard, except there's not enough room for the drill to fit in there. I guess I'd have to remove the throttle body to make room.
Am I right that the hose is connected to the engine block? Please correct me if I'm wrong so I get my terminology straight.

Good deal, remove the throttle body and do the work on the bench, do you want to try to save it or just get another valve. Could I ask you to take a couple of pics of the AC Relays for me, I can explain better for you, I am working on a huge project, your camera does good close ups. PM me please.
I was going through the process of cleaning and checking the FITV when I came across this other problem. If I'm not mistaken that's the FITV on the left there and then across from it is that rusted out hose "nipple". It sounds to me like you're thinking the problem is with the throttle body, but it's not. The rusted out "nipple" is actually on the main part of the engine (the block?). I hope your solution will work in this case.
You're saying to just drill out where the "nipple" is, tap it out, and install a small pipe to fit the hose over right? I'm just hoping I don't have other rusted out places like this...
The camera is a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I've had it for almost a year now and I love it.

Dont worry. You'll fit right in with the other 98% of the people on Honda-tech who dont know anything about cars.

Well I don't feel so bad then. I am relying on the other 2% to help me with my troubles so I hope that's not too much pressure. Sorry. I can't afford to go pay a mechanic to fix my car or I would.
I thought about selling it, but I like my Civic too much. I'd rather fix it so I can once again drive it. It has been sitting for a while now.

I understand the part is in the engine block, most pipes going into the block just press in, it may be a real bugger to get the old one out but the new one should just tap into place carefully with some special home made insertion tool. Can you not get a drill down to that area.
OK. Thanks guys. I'm gonna give it a shot.
Yeah I can get a drill down there, but I may need to remove the throttle body as my drill isn't very compact. Alternatively I may go find a smaller size drill. I will report back here and let you guys know how it goes. I'm going to make an attempt to document the process with photo and/or video and post it online as a guide for other folks in my shoes.
After this I think I need to replace the water pump. I'll come ask for advice on that when the time comes. From what I've heard thus far I need to pull the engine for that process.
If that's true I may be in trouble. I've never done it.
Thanks again. I appreciate the help more than you guys know.

I'm having trouble getting the lower left bolt off of the throttle body mount. It will turn, but it is tough and doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere. Any trick's to get it off?

hit some PB blaster on it, let it soak for a few hours and then hit it up with a ratcheting combo wrench... thats what id do- go to lowes and pick up a cobalt 10,12,14mm ratcheting combo wrenches. You will love yourself trust me
Nice pic, make sure you use a 6 poing socket or box end wrench, not a 12 point, screw it out some and in some, two steps out and one step in. Can you please post several pics of this thing from different angles to show the components on it and the holes on the inside, FITV and IACV and TPS and whatever, this pic shows a perfect view of the idle screw, good job. PLEASE
Sure thing Duane. I took several photo's yesterday plus I have some video as well. I'll try to get it all online soon. The photo's will likely be online first since they are quicker and much easier to transfer. My camcorder is a mini-dv so it takes a slight bit longer to transfer. I wish I had a digital one so I could simply copy the files over.
Update: I did get the throttle body removed yesterday (after bashing my hand a couple times busting two knuckles and gashing my right wrist a little). I ended up spraying it with some WD-40 because I already had some and don't have much $ to spend right now. It worked well. Now I just need to clean it and the fitv all up. Then before reinstalling I will hunt down my drill and tap & die set and see if I can't get the rusty hole repaired for that coolant hose. After reading up some more and looking at it again I believe the rusted out nipple is actually on the intake manifold where it attaches to the engine beneath the fuel rail. Does that sound right? I'm learning as I go. This is the biggest repair project I've ever done on a car. Can't wait to tackle that water pump!

I can't tell for sure but it looks like it is right above the goose neck for the thermostat. Tstat housing is #7 in this photo

It looks like it is attached to the intake manafold

If it is I would tke the whole thing off the car to work on it. It is going to make your life a lot easyer good luck

Those links dont work for me for some reason from many threads, it is possible to have water going through part of the intake manifold on many cars.
EDIT: Spoke too soon, Majestic Honda site will not link for me, this one is good, I dont know why.
