Default 1991 Prelude - Gremlins in the cooling fan motor

I have a 1991 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si

Last week, after the car had sat idle all day, I was working near the car (not doing anything to the Prelude) and all of a sudden the cooling fan came on. Again, the car had not been started all day.

The car is now sitting with the battery charger on it as the battery died.

I'm wondering how many other times this fan is running for no apparent reason and is running down the battery.

Where should I begin troubleshooting? Anyone else experience this sort of thing?

A side note/question - What is the best way to test if the alternator is up to snuff? That could also explain a dead battery.

Check the fan switch (or switches).

For the alternator, you need a multimeter:
