Need help!! Prelude questions...
I just bought a 2000 Prelude SH, the next day the engine blew. It only had 30,000 original miles. When i bought it they said there was something wrong with the ECU, the reason it had so few miles. I just had another put in, straight from Japan, with only 30,000 mi. on it. What should I look out for. I've heard alot of horror stories with Preludes. The car has intake, full exhaust, and racing clutch. Thinking about headers, cam gears, and pulleys.
What are you talking about 'horror stories'? The auto trannies have problems and there was an ignition switch recall, but what are the horror stories?
Why did the engine 'blow' and what do you mean by 'blow'?

Not going to do anything.
There are several high-end headers that will make power, but don't waste your $$ on a DC or something.

Well I dont know about horror stories. I've known a few people with preludes and they said there was always something going wrong.
I was told the engine overheated and blew a rod, although the temp gauge never moved. Not very mechanically inclined though.

The only issue with my lude is that my ICM and Ignition coil takes a crap a few times a year on average. Other than that, it eats oil but still no horror stories.

Preludes are just about as reliable as any other Honda if you take care of them. You might replace the timing belt and tensioner if they haven't been replaced, and do a basic tune up, keep and eye on all your fluids and you should be fine for many more miles.

Thanks for all the help. I'll definitely look into the timing belt and tensioner. I know they're reliable, and I'm in love with my car, just kinda scary when your engine takes a dump the day after you buy it. Probably coulda been avoided though....
