Default Is this a good deal or not?

This fellow near me (chicago) is selling a 1994 Prelude. It has 130,000 Miles on it and it doesn't bother me since I know hondas can easily surpass 200,000. As far as it's condition it is nice on the outside, barely any dings or scratches, just enought to know its not a 2001 car. As far as rust. Its amazing for a chicago car 2 small spots near rear wheels and im sure it could come off with some of the rust b gone spray because it has barely just ate through the paint. The interior is rather nice, it's a little dusty and worn but again nothing that I wouldn't expect or couldn't fix up myself. This guy is askin 8000 and I know I can get it for 7000. You might be thinkin thats a horrible deal but keep readin. This car has a few toys with it. It has (as I remember) DC Sports Header - Air Intake - Racing Hart 17' Rims - Carbon Fiber Hood - Pullys - Plugs - Wires on engine - CatBack Exhaust with Apexi Dunk muffler - Clutchmaster Stage 3 clutch - and the Timing Belt was changed at 90,000 and oil was replaced every 2000. He has reciepts for all the stuff and he also has some brake pads and a ignitioner? (sorry im not formilar with what the hell it was or what it did.) So I ask should I pursue this deal? The onlything bothering me with the car is how many miles he has on it, It sounds great, feels better and has a good look to it. Im lookin for some opinoins here and maybe some possible ways to convince my dad that 130,000 miles isn't so bad for this car please any help would be much appreciated.

Attention, Attention. Please do research somewhere else and figure out what the worth of mod to a car is. Use the board only as tech questions.

wow i guess honda-tech is supposed to be just "tech" topics but seems kinda harsh =P look it the real market value on http://www.edmunds.com and use that number as a base figure....

It probably would have been much simplar for you to write "Yes, good deal," "No way!," or "It's fair." rather then just yellin at me...would have saved you time, ya know?

I agree. I don't know bout being so harsh....we need to keep all the readers..

I say ask him to lower the price a lil because of the mileage. Since it hazs all those things on it, He probally ragged on it all the time at the races. You don't get all the stuff just to say you have it. Also I got my car when I lived in michigan and the rusting out on all the nuts and bolts makes it hard to work on yourself. Other then that I say it's a good deal..just take it to your mechanic.

Generally speaking, aftermarket mods won't increase the value of your car. If he feels differently, tell him to go to a dealership and ask for the tradein value of it... he's in for a shock.

Is it a VTEC, Si, or S? That makes a big difference.

I think that $7k is still a little much.

Alright Ive done somet hinkin. I am sorry this thread is not to related to "Tech" but im about to make it that way. Ok here it goes:

Say I get this Lude...hear are some facts:

The 2nd owner bought it at 120,000 Miles.

The 2nd owner put ALL the mods on therefor could only hvae been drivin "hard" for a total of 15,000 - 30,000 miles considering the pervious owner took care of it.

Reasoning:
Now considering that it was old people or highway miles the motor should have life left in it no? Say my theory is right, ill do a little reasearch on this but if it is right, how many miles before my engine goes and can I get like a tune up or do anythin to renew its life besides puttin 2800 down for a h22a? Or is that the only way out and the best way? Also, im thinkin of takin it to a automotive place and having them check out the engine and making sure its in tip top shape is that a wise choice? What kind of info can they give me if I do that? Im lookin for a lude, my other choice is a teg. They are pretty hard to find it seems especialy in 5spd. THe only other good one in 5 spd is 9500$, VTEC with 4300 miles and no mods...and considering ill be paying it off I wouldn't be able to MOD it for at least 2 or 3 years with that payment...so id prefer a car with some mods. So guys please help me this is pretty important part of my life...largest sum of money I will spend and I don't really wanna be disapointed and I inikow I can rely on the guys here..at least the ones who don't yell at me.

You could part out some of the mods that the car has in order to help pay it off quicker. Or better yet, you could rebuild the 94 prelude with Type S pistons and Crower rods.

with aftermarket parts on the car (reguardless of what he tells you) you KNOW he was racing his car, either on the street or at the strip. now, 130k is a lot of miles but it sounds like he has taken good care of the car. i would take it to honda and have them check out the car before you go through and buy it. make sure everything is in good working condition before you purchase it, i would try to talk him down on the price...

I don't know man, cars with this many mods, rust, and high mileage should cost less than what he's asking.. I say keep him in mind.. and just look around a little more..good luck..

uhh ok dude, this was a legit question for feedback, I don't know about you demanding authority and telling mods to lock it out of a simple question.

Yes he could have done research, but nothing wrong with asking. And he DID post it in the Prelude forum which it being a legit question.

If he posted in the Tech forum, THEN you would have a point. Other than that, shut your hole.

As for the original poster, I'd find out exactly what crashes, etc he has been. Try to get him down to $7000 with the money upfront. Sounds like a good deal to me, even with the 130,000 miles.

You have to keep in mind that Hondas have awesome re-sale value and they keep their value strong. Go for it and once you have enough room for cash, swap an H22 (if it is an Si I'm assuming) in there
