Which shocks should I buy for CRX?
I've searched around about this but didn't find much. I'm looking to getting some new shocks and lowering springs for my 90 crx si. The choices I have narrowed it down to are the skunk2 sport shocks and springs, tokico hp shocks and springs or kyb gr-2 shocks and some kind of springs. These are what I have found right now that are in my price range. I'm not going to do any kind of racing or what not, maybe just down the block or so. Just want something that makes the car handle better. Give me your opinion.
i have a complete set of KYB GR2 shocks for 89-91 crx for sale.
they were on my car for a few months before i went to a more aggressive setup.

We could probably help you more if you give us a price range. I put kyb agx shocks and h&r race springs on my car. I like it but I had to get different radias bars because my crank pulley would hit it(b18.) I wish I would have went Koni/Gc.
well the price range for those shocks that I listed was about 300 dollars to 350 dollars that including the springs as well

If you look hard you can find a great set up for that. I just paid about $350 for a shipped set of 4 good Koni Sports that are missing the top **** adjusters (use an allen key) and 4 G/C coilovers. I didn't get custom rates of course, but all in all, great deal.
I would absolutely not go Tokico HP, you're far better off with the Illuminas and they're not much more expensive. I've heard okay things about KYB, especially since they have a nice warranty that Tire Rack will honor if bought and installed new and not lowered excessively.
Reserach, there's plenty out there.

buy tokico illuminas off ebay. cheapest place. contact the mdirectly and they will sell you outside of ebay if you think thats better. they still give lifetime warrantys with their illuminas, as far as i heard. ask. you can get them for under $400, for that price, theres no other better value.
tokico HP blues ARE A WASTE OF MONEY. you cheap skates who think youre saving a buck are just throwing your money away. countless ppl have given horrible feedback on them.
same with kyb GR-2 for that matter. and for the money, illumina > agx.
then buy whatever spring kit you want. you can get those used, good springs shouldnt matter its age.

I ran HPs for many years on my hatch and thought the ride was just fine. Maybe I'm the odd man out.
I will second your recommendation of Illuminas though.

dont listen to him ive owned both shocks are
BOTH KINDS
What these guys are failing to piont out is that they want you to get the adjustable ones, not the cheaper but still good quality, non-adjustable ones.

The drop hieght performance wise depends on what you put in for suspension. If you get just a shock and spring you will not have a shortened shock body as you WILL get if you go full coilover system. I usually run my drop at 1.75-2 inches with my FULL coilover system. It is possible to do this with your shock sets but could not perform optimally. A good shock set and ground control sleeve over coilovers work the best at 1 inch-1.5inch if you opt OUT of the FULL coilover sets.
thanks for all the info about the HP's and gr-2's but has anyone tried the skunk2 sport springs I was looking at those but want to see if anyone else has tried them
I haven't had a hard time fiding shocks and springs but I am weary about buying used. I bought some older agx's and they turned out to be crap

theres much more you get with the illuminas than blues that make illuminas a much better value than simply adjustability.
lifetime warranty.
better valving.
better quality.
made in japan.

+1 on Tokico Illuminas.
My 89' CRX Si w/ LS swap drove great all summer.
Shocks : Tokico Illuminas, 1 front 2 rear (3 front, 4 rear when I felt like it)
Coils : Neuspeed Race (A little bad with bumpy roads, but TIGHT feeling)
Tires : 205-55-15 BFGoodrich KDW2s
Special : Energy Suspension Swaybar Bushings, ETD Traction Bar
Grips like a ****. I can take freeway onramps that are posted at 25 mph at 70 mph now with no tire squeel or side-drive. Just extreme g-forces pushing you out of your seat. =P
