b18 in hatch, will only run with foot on the throttle EACV IACV IAC
I have a 90 si hatch with a b18a in it. My problem is that the car wont stay running unless I have my foot on the gas pedal. While holding it at 1500 to 2000 rpm, my rpm would drop to 1000 to 800 rpm and jump right back up to were I was holding it and at the same time the check engine and battery light would come on and off really quick. I can hear the main relay clicking and then motor cuts out. the only code that the ecu is throwing is for the IAC. Because when I put the motor in i couldn't find the IAC wire and plug. So I just left it alone for now until I have time to trace it and see were the wire is at. I checked if it was the IAC using my friends 92 integra by undoing the IAC wire and his car starts up fine. I switch the main relay and the same thing help me out please what do you guys think it could be that is causing this to happen. Any ideas on how to diagnose this problem. Thanks for everyones help.
Have you checked the timing? Cam and ignition?
Use the EACV. When i didn't have one the car would not idle on its own. I had to start the car and sit inside on the gas pedal until it warmed up. Then it would idle but very low. Once the CEL is off we can go from there.
Also if battery light is on check alternator and battery before moving forward. If your holding your foot on the gas and the idle drops and batt light comes on either your batt or alter is no good.

What is the EACV?
I've check the alternator and battery, alternator puts out 14.1v for the few seconds that the motor stays on and battery sits at 12.4v.
Checked power at ignition harness and it has 11.9v at harness under dash.
As for timing and cam I am not to sure how to do it so I'll wait until my buddy gets off work for that.

I don't know how to check if it is a bad coil or not so I just went out and bought a new ignition coil, ignition module, plugs, rotor and cap and still the same.
Rechecked all the grounds from the thermal housing to the manifold from the valve cover and tranny to the battery scraped off paint for better ground still the same.
Thanks for your input guys.

EACV/IACV/IAC are all the same thing. Get it hooked up correctly and working. You car will not idle correctly with the CEL for it on. This is your problem, do NOT attempt to try and fix anything else until you clear this code up.
