very helpful to someone like you. learn the basics of how engine's and other auto motive systems work. such as suspension, brakes, ect.

Dude, don't stress about "pouring water in" LOL, you should do that
when your windsheild washer fluid is empty, but by that time the oil
change place has probably done it for you.

No matter what you do, always believe in yourself, Dont be afraid to tackle jobs by yourself. Its the best way to learn. And dont have any fear with hondas. If you start working on something with a attitude that your gonna kick some *** and get this car done and rollin tonight, Chances are it will happen
You can read all you want, but a hands on experience is always better in the long run.

my recomendation to you is when it finally comes time to buy a car get a manual, even if you dont like driving enthusiasticly it help you understand the mechanics of what you are driving and keeps you focused on the road. which might save you from an accident from my experience of new drivers.

This = Bad Advice.
If you need a new timing belt, and you can't change your spark plugs - DON'T ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT. Take it to a garage for that ****
.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
@ OP: Learn how things work at howstuffworks.com - and then from there search for pictures, so you understand, or trace hoses in your car, and read threads on honda-tech, and see how the problem was solved - and why it was solved, then understand why the problem did what it did.
And if you have any questions - just ask.
Though it's smart and stupid at the same time to start on Hondas though. 5th and 6th gen civics are like the most basic cars you'll ever find - you won't find a car more basic under the hood. On the flipside, you can know everything about a Honda engine - but b/c they're so damn simple, if you had to work on a MKIV VR6 or a MKV 2.0 (early century dub engines) you'll be completely lost due to how basic the Honda is.
They're great to learn on I suppose, but with tech progressing the way it is you have to pay attention or you'll go to work on another car and you'll hav eno clue what ur doing.

i agree. i dont think jumping into something with no previous knowledge is a good idea. i know if im not sure how to do something i do some research before messing with it. or ask someone that has done it before. ill be building and engine soon and turboing it and ill be asking around alot. ive done it before but not with a honda. so ill be looking for all kinds of help and info. just dont get in over your head. but your going in the right direction by asking and learning. i took two years of auto tech in high school and this spring im goin to college for a two year automotive degree plus a honda PACT certificate. if your really interested in car see what you can do where you live.
