Default 95 accord ex, governor or no?

So, I went to an open road out on one of our wonderful abandoned desert highways here in new mexico and brought my accord to 122mph before slowing down (A slight turn was ahead). Once I got up there it was very very sluggish to get to higher rpms when in lower gears it got there no problem. Now I didnt think my car had a governor to begin with, and if it didnt, it could've been all the extra weight I had in the car at the time that made me slow down, or perhaps my gearing since its an automatic?

Now dont start getting mad at me for going that fast, it was in a controlled enviroment, I had people on both sides of the highway to alert me of oncoming drivers (which on this particular highway is practically never). I also have taken extensive classes in defensive driving courses. (My dad was once a police officer, I had the benifit of taking those classes when I was younger) And my car has performance tires and suspension so my car handles real well at those speeds. And on top of all that, I am the 2nd owner of this car and have had it for a few years, it has been well maintained. I just recently put in new spark plugs and bosche ignition coils so she runs real smooth with the exhaust/intake combo I got on it.

Anyway! The reason I made this thread was to see if my particular honda came with a governor or not? I'm curious to see why it slowed down if it didnt have a governor.

EX's do not have a governor

However at 122mph you are hitting the top regions of that motor's limits not to mention already most likely passing your tire's limits (probably not something you though of) etc

Going that fast period on a "controlled environment" is dumb all it takes is for you to hit a pothole at 100+ for you to be dead.

By all means I agree. I do know how to drive though and I figured it was the engine not being able to go any further I just wanted that to be confirmed. It was not redlining so I thought that could've been a governor. No other car that I've topped out stopped short of redline.

What I mean by controlled is that I am only putting myself in danger and not others. That was my goal...plus. Going that fast in a car is not that bad. I'm not sure if you've gone faster in a car? I have, 165 in a porshce 911 turbo on a track. Yes its a track not a public road so the feeling is slightly different. But either way I do know how to drive and that was a rush. I just wanted to see what my daily driver could do...

Oh yea and as for tires, they're michelin (however u spell it) z rated tires and I have tein coilovers. The handling at that speed was very nice compared to what stock might've felt like (I've never brought it that high stock)

I have gone plenty fast thank you faster than the 122 you did on a public road.

It is an accord, not a performance car, your curb weight is roughly 3000 and it came with 145 stock - subtract some hp due to it's age (plugs/wires won't do much nor will i/h/e) so you're probably still only at 130 or so.

Show me a car with ~130 hp and a weight of 3000 that can go much faster than 120. To give you an example the 03 Accord brand new has a theoretical top speed of only 126mph.

oh ok, just checking.

Anyway yeah, there isnt much done to the car, I'm just going to wait and do some engine work on it. Pistons, rods, new headgasket, and turbo it. I've already got an entire thread on it so yeah...it'll eventually get a good power boost.

EX's at least with 94-97 did not come with governors, the LX/DX had a speed limited governor at 115 mph

well if it had a limiter I would've seen it. I think that was def the furthest my engine could've gone...
