Car Shuts down, Need Help!
i got a 98 automatic prelude with a problem..The car shuts down. I turn it on and the car runs good, everything runs good for a while. i can go like 40 miles and nothing will happen. At times i get home and park the car and the car stays at a idle. idle is about less the 1000rpms. Then the Needle jumps up abit while the car is in idle and then goes back to normal and then The needle goes downward, looks like it loses rpms on the tach. and then the car shuts down...Also after a long period of driving it seems to do the same.the needle jumps up and then drops down but keeps the car on. i think cuz the wheels are still spining so it keeps the car going and keeps it on........ I need help.. if it sounds confuzing let me know ..this **** is upseting to see my prelude do such a thing.
It Also has a rebuilt tranny done by attarco. u think that can be a problem? maybe it messed up and starts slipn like that?

Sounds like it could be the common IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) fault. Do a search on here for 'IACV' for more info, but you basically just need to remove the valve from the front of the intake manifold & clean it out with carb cleaner.
eyy i cleaned my Iacv valve and it fixed it..but i still have another problem with the car. see if u know what what i may be..Once i start pickn up speed my tach guage needle starts to jump up alot. and then it starts hitting redline as i step on the gas.. I changed my coil thinkn it was gonna be that. but it still does so.. The needle starts jumping at around 4,000 and above rpms..bascially when the vtec starts kickn..Do u think my guage cluster is mest up..I checked all my grounds and they seem to be good. What Can it be?
