I would like to know this because the snowboarding season is comin up and I am too cheap to spend $300 on a Yakima rack

Yes, there's a key cylinder on the upper back panel. Stick key in and the backrests comes down.

if you dont want to climb in the back seat there is a tether in the trunk haning from the lock pull and push.
