88 CRX confusing the hell outa me
Ok i have a 88 CRX SI, 146k. stock d16a6.
When i got the car it had the original radiator in it and it was shot. I replaced it after i replaced I noticed white smoke (yes i know head gasket) but the thing is it does it randomly sometimes not at all, and theres no antifreeze missing.
Then theres the blue smoke which should be oil, figured the valve seals are probably wasted, but then again it only does it sometimes, sometimes when cold, warm, slow or fast driving. and Im not loosing any oil.
The exhaust tail pipe is black and sooty, like its running rich. but it passed emissions and nothing was high.
Its not throwing any codes, no CEL, and im not sure if 240 miles to a full tank is crappy or not with this thing (im used to getting 100 to a tank if that). So im starting to think injectors or 02 sensor but wouldn't a bad 02 be throwing a code? Other wise the car runs mint, idles perfect, has power revs fine.
Thanks for the help, anyone else as confused on this?

The 02 sensor can be bad and not throw a code. It all depends on when it goes out.
Mine got stuck at .5 volts without throwing a code. For $40 bucks get a new one.
If it doesn't smoke all the time then whats the problem.

The problem is when it smokes..it smokes I feel like spy hunter with my smoke screen.
Ok i thought the 02 sensor would throw a cel automatically ill pick up a new one tomorrow and give it a shot

Try the 02 first and report back, it's the first thing that comes to my mind.

Well I never changed anything, and the car stopped smoking on its own.
And the hesitation at 2500 RPMS is gone
I guess it just needed to be cleared out? I've done only about 800 on it since i posted this problem.
Hondas fix there own problems apparently?

It could be old coolant/oil or other nasties have settled in your cat and when it gets really hot, some burns off. I have seen a cat smoke just like a head gasket. Of course it was just installed, and was used. Not sure if that helps or not.
