what type of climate are you in, if your in cali and have crazy hot days in the sun the car would be good to go depending on the product used in a day if it has been backing on out in the sun, next it depends on what yu are sandin i.e. runs, dust dirt, bugs, lol runs are tricky and shitty even for the experienced painters and body men, i personally scratch them out with a razor blade but i deff do not recommend you trying that, lol where are the runs on the car, flat surface, roll edge of a panel, you'll most likely want to use a sanding block of some sort, paint sticks work great, wrap the paper tightly around the stick and sand, its hard to give advice to someone and easier to show, its easy for you to sand through the clear if you do the wrong thing or if there isn't a good build of clear, but you could start with 1000, and cut down the runs, then move to 1200, and 1500, to make the polishing (buffing) a little easier

i personally like to cut it down before wet sanding. razor blade works good, but they also have a little block you can pick up at the paint shop to shave the runs, which is easier to use. i usually do the sand and buff 1-2 days after.

ah he is correct the do sell a little razor blade block to cut down the runs, eastwood sells them and maybe the local parts stores, i just wrap masking tape on eack end to act as a buffer so the edges don't dig the paint and scratch away but you really need to see it done to learn, lol so buy the block,
