Default heavy vibration and a squeaking noise coming from the front end.

I went for a drive in the mountains. On the way down a heavy vibration started coming from the front end. Can't pinpoint exactly where.

the engine vibrates, and the front end is usually where the motor is. maybe it's your motor jokes aside, could be your engine mount(s)? might want to check that. happened to me before.

does the vibration make any thudding/clunking?

maybe axel shaft/hub assembly. I had that issue but there was a noticable thudding noise.

Yeah, it does make that noise. I really hope it's not terrible though. How much do axles run anyway?
