i have a 91 integra GS auto and whenever its cold outside the tranny wont shift into park, i have to wait until the park light appears until i can remove the key from the ignition...ive dealt with this problem for consecutive winters, ive done searches but no real solution....

Well, temporary solution= Put it in neutral, take the key out, put it in the gear slot thing, and put it in park...


But I don't see why cold weather would cause that???

 

Are all your gears lined up? (when the shifter is at N, the car is in N not reverse)

Check the linkage.

 

all my gears are lined up, i should mention that the engine idles rough as it sits in the park position and i cannot remove the key until the park light comes on, so therefore it would be impossible to remove the key and stick it in the gear shift override

i dont know why cold weather is causing it either

how do i fix/lubricate the linkage?

You can't take the key out until the car is in park.

I had the same exact problem in my 91 GS, I read somewhere that it's some issue with the electrical contacts in the gear selector. Search around on http://www.G2IC.com, I think someone had a fix for it there.

i think this a common problem in automatic da's because everyone i knew with an auto da had this problem.

 

try replacing the NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH

i made this post like 3 months ago, since then i did a motor/tranny swap....no more problem...

 

o well

that dude bumed it....i don't pay attention to dates when people bump stuff

and i still actually tried to help....weird
