Default Problem reinstalling alternator belt

I cut the one that was on there before off, so I didn't have problem with that. Now that I'm trying to reinstall the one I got from Autozone, it's not working. The belt won't clear the edge of the crank pulley by almost an inch. The alternator is all the way at the bottom, in the max slack position. I checked the new belt against the one I removed; they're the same length. The part number on this belt checks out as well. I'm baffled because the old belt was obviously on there without any problems. Any input would be appreciated.

You sure it is really fully slack? Try messing with the tensioner setup on the bottom some, they can be tricky.
