16" WHEELS WITH A 205-45-16 MAKES MY HATCH FEEL SLUGISH
I DRIVE A 1996 CIVIC HATCH WITH A SEMI BUILT CTR RUNING A ITR TRANS WITH 4.7 FINAL DRIVE I AM CURRENTLY USEING A 16" WHEEL WITH 205-45-16 IF I DROP DOWN TO A 15" WHEEL WITH 205-50-15 WILL I SEE A NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN ACCELERATION
Both sizes you mention are too large for your car, significantly bigger in diameter than your stock size. In addition to throwing off your speedometer and odometer (yes, making them read lower than you're actually going), the larger diameter also means that your car accelerates slower (it's the same effect as putting taller gearing on your car). For the best matching sizes, you should be using 205/40-16 (or 195/45-16) for 16" wheels, 195/50-15 for 15" wheels. If you're looking for really sticky tires in those sizes, I recommend the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 205/40-16, Goodyear F1 GS-D3 in 195/45-16 or 195/50-15, or Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R in 195/50-15.
As for the OP, What type of rims do you have? Going down to a 15 will be better but depending on what 16" rim you have you could be running a considerably heavy wheel if you can really notice the difference in acceleration.

Not true. What you say is true of all 'b]'97[/b]-00 Civics, but not for the '96. '96 Civics came with two different sizes. DX and hatchback models - including his - came with 175/70-13 tires from the factory, and for those cars, the best matching sizes are 195/50-15 for 15" wheels, 205/40-16 or 195/45-16 for 16" wheels. All other Civics came with 185/65-14 or 195/55-15 tires, and for those other models, the two sizes you mention are best (the 215/45-16 also works).

It's not good. It means reduced acceleration, inaccurate gauges, and the possibility of rubbing. If you already have the 205/45-16, you can use them if you want, but you're much better off with 205/40-16.

You can use the same size rims (16"), but your acceleration will be better if you get smaller diameter tires, either 205/40-16 or 195/45-16. If you want the best acceleration, get sticky tires, like the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 205/40-16, or the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 in 195/45-16.

If you want to lower your car, the proper way to do it is by modifying the suspension, not by getting the wrong tire size.
