no way, vtec does not engage at 6k on an ap2.
i would guess around 5-5.2k rpm.

6K in an AP1?? in my AP1 its at 6500...and you can most deff feal it when it kicks in! but 5500 sounds about right for the AP2 i would think, seeing it has 1k less RPMs...so you are correct it would not last untill 9K.
I believe the AP1 should activate at 6200 RPM, but mine appears to be 6k according to the tach on the dash.
As for an AP2, someone I knew that has one said it's at the same point, but the limiter kicks in at 8200 as opposed to 9200 like the AP1. He hates that if he shifts too early, the next gear ends up being outside of the VTEC point.

The actual engagement point varies a bit with conditions, but from what I've read the AP1 kicks over between 6000-6200rpm, and the AP2 is 5800-6000. My own experience reflects those values.
The gearing is different on the AP2, so it's not just a matter of a lower redline.
