Default Ideas for cost effective gains for a new daily driver

hey guys, i just got a 91 Integra GS with 139k miles on it.

it is my new daily driver and i'd like to keep it around for a long time
i'm looking for some ideas that would help tune it up and not break my bank in the mean time. i'm not that concerned about the looks (function over fashion)

As of now, it has a new tranny and clutch in there. the exhaust is broken off past the resinator, so there is no muffler. like i said, i just got the car and havn't had time to give it a good look over yet. i'm sure by changing the oil/filter, spark plugs, wires, fuel filter would be good things to do, but what other things am i missing?

i need some good ideas about what kinda intake and exhaust to put on there that would still keep a "healthy" air flow in there, cuz i don't want to mess up the engine by tossing a cone filter on the intake and some lame *** fart can exhaust on there.

it needs new rotors as well, that's not a big deal tho. but at the same time, i'd like to get a nice brake setup on there while i have to replace it all anyway.

so plz help me out and give me some good pointers to keep this 91 teg really nice

Wow...

Um, I hear the Icebox intake is pretty good, or do what some do, get an Ebay intake, ditch the filter and get a better filter...

As for exhaust, how much is your budget on that???

I don't think they make an Icebox for the DA...

and I'm in about the same situation, I'm probably about to do header/cat/catback. i've removed resonator below the airbox as well, and hacked a hole in the plastic under that for more airflow. you need to remove the bumper to do this, but it's easy.

yea, i'm guessing im going to spend about 200 on parts for the exhaust, and like 100 on installation. so close to 300 or something. but that's for a whole new system. headers-muffler.

as far as the intake goes, i haven't seen any "iceman" boxes around online, but some of the stuff on ebay looks "ok" i'm guessing that they are all just about the same, but i'm looking at something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...i%3D1
seems to have the right stuff, and the right price

also, i've gotta get new brakes, but i'm not sure about what kinda rotors to get. it's got 4 wheel disk breaks, but because the rotors are very warn down i don't feel like they would stop as fast as they should.

do installation yourself. its really easy. i swear $100 is not worth it. besides you sound like you could use the experience

$300 for header and exhaust...

if you can't afford to play, don't start at all

do you end up heating up the brakes much? if so, Brembo blanks (slotted/drilled do next to nothing except cost more) and a decent set of pads will be a major improvement. stainless lines area great too, and not too expensive.

well, as far as the exhaust, i do have some questions about how the stuff of ebay is. once i do get it, i don't have a welder, but i know a guy that does that will do it for me. i don't want to dump too much into this car, but i want it to be quiet but still noticeable, just nothing too loud. ok, well if 300 bucks is too low for something like that, what should i be spending? i really don't mind ebay stuff, as long as it's new and solid/quiet. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem something like that seems like it woud work out. this is the whole set tho http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

as far as the breaks, i go really light on the breaks all the time, and i downshift alot too. so i'm not that worried about getting them too hot. so i'm sure something that's close to stock will work out fine. what kinda pads are good tho?

If you don't heat up the brakes much, whatever's cheap should work fine. It's only if you're hard on them that you need aggressive pads.
