ok heres the problem . I was driving home from work today and I thought I heard a funny noise . but just figured it was just background road noise . I pull in my driveway and rev the motor up a little and the noise was alot louder . It seems the noise (sounds like knocking or something loose) is the loudest at 2000 to 2500 RPMS . Is it possible this might be detonation , I have advanced my timing but never heard any knocking before . Also i was told that Detonation will only be noticeable at WOT not at idle . Any ideas on what this might be and more importantly how much this is gonna cost . 00 civic ex d16y8

Had a buddy of mine listen to my car while I idled it to the RPMS that created the knocking noise . The noise is also coming from my exhaust . As the knocking noise starts (2000-2500 RPMS) there is also a (hard to describe) almost like backfiring noise coming from the exhaust . Any Ideas ? ? ?

 

does it "knock" faster as the rpm`s climb? Hopefully it`s not a spun bearing

sounds like it is misfiring how far did you advance the timing?

 

the Knocking noise does increase with the RPM's but disappears after the rpms pass the 2500 Mark . as far as advanced timing . the timing is set a 19 and run 98 octane . Its just strange this noise only occurs between these rpms .

 

do u have enough oil and did u ever run with not enough oil?

 

Oil fine and I returned the timing back to stock and still making the damn noise ? I don't wanna believe that the engine is this screwed up with only 37 thou on the clock . Plus I don't have my warrenty anymore
