Will a 96 Civic hatch ex engine fit/work with a 96 Civic Coupe ex?

My friend was going to sell me his engine pretty cheap and has less miles than mine but it's hatch and mine it coupe will it still work/fit?

There is no such thing as a '96 Civic EX hatch.
You probably mean CX or DX (the only trims the hatch came in in the US). Those cars have the D16Y7 1.6L SOHC non-VTEC while the EX has the D16Y8 1.6L SOHC VTEC.

Really Idk that is wat my friend told me because its his friends car so not really my friend but will and hatch civic engine same year fit in?

oh sorry I didnt read the rest of your post so it wouldnt be worth it? cuz ya I have v tech so
hatches dont come in ex trim, if its a stock hatch motor, its not vtec, your VTECH is way better
and yes u can switch engines easily with all the diffrent Ds in 96-00 jus the location of the cat may be diffrent on some
