Default Adding converter to race header?

I've finally become a member here after a long time of just viewing. Great place with tons of good help. So now to ask for my own help. I have an 06 Si and am considering the DC header. Being that I live in New York State. The catalytic converter is a necessity to pass the yearly inspection. I don't know any shop around here that would let it slip...as of yet. What I would like to know is if it's possible to cut a portion of the header out to weld in a converter? Also, are the main gains from this header just because the converter is being removed? If this is the case then I'd rather end up putting on a high flow converter. The last question I have is about the DC exhaust system. I haven't had any luck finding an answer for this either. Does this system bolt up without adding their header as well? I see on Corsport there's a note that says "This exhaust setup bolts ONLY up to the DC Race Header". Sorry to be a pest with questions but I haven't had luck searching around. Thanks in advance.

regarding you CAT question yes you could get a CAT welded in after installing a reace header the only problem is that your going to have to mount the cat further away from the engine and the cat needs the heat from the engine to work properly so it wont be cleaning up you un bernt fuel (HC & CO) so your car may have more emisions then it scould have

That defeats the whole purpose of having a aftermarket header.
Why do you think all the manfactures makes a RACE HEADER instead of a regular header that doesnt elimninate the CAT? Because the Factory K20 Header was so well built that the only way to increase more power is to eliminate the Catalytic Convertor. Get the DC Sports Race Header and get something called a o2 Simulator (little tiney washers) that suppose to push your o2 sensor about a few cm out to prevent having a check engine light. I got it on my car and never had a problem.

But as far as getting a RACE Header and welding on a CAT on there...

If your trying to make power on your car but worry about emissions, get a Random Technology High Flow Cat, I gurantee this product would make similar or just as much power gains as a RACE HEADER

If I did go the direction of welding one on, I already knew a high flow cat was in order. Thanks for trying though. I also know about the defoulers that prevent the check engine light from activating, but that's not the main concern. During inspection once the car gets on the lift the tech will notice no cat, then it instantly fails. I'll probably just go the direction of welding/bolting a high flow cat on to the stock header seeing that the k20 header is well designed. Its either that or waste $700+ on Vibrant's header/high flow cat setup, which I'm not willing to do. Also...is the still no one who has an answer as to if the DC exhaust system(not axle back). Will it bolt directly to the stock header/cat setup?

Because the downpipe on this particular platform is integrated with the catalytic converter, thus eliminating the creation of a bolt on product.

You could order a set of these from honda and weld them together over any section of pipe and it will probably pass visual.

I like the idea of putting the heat shield on the pipe. Although from the pictures I see of the race header. The only place that could go is around the flex joint. Since a catalytic converter is between the 02 sensors this would be the only place. It looks like the gap between the sensors on the header is much smaller than the gap on factory. Making it so the heat shield would end up extending over the 02 sensor area. So I'm not sure it would work out too well. Unless someone else has done it and has pictures of their setup.

I'd go with the Vibrant, I've seen them on Ebay for around $700 with free shipping. They seem to be of decent quality.

Probably cheaper than buying a DC plus high flow cat and having it welded in. Good luck with your upgrades

Thanks a lot for that link. I went and made an offer for it and ended up getting it for 695 with free shipping. The guy responded in less than 5 minutes so maybe I should have offered lower. Now to get a catback to top it off.
