Power steering wagovan noob question
hey, I've been looking for a cheap honda just to use a beater, I came across an 89 wagovan with 132k and they want 1200 for it. but it doesnt have power steering...and i've never driven a car without power steering. I know ps makes it easier to turn the wheel, but does it mean you have to turn the wheel less as well?
I know you're probaly just gonna say test drive it, well I cant. it's a manual. and Im not great at driving a stick so yeah. i'd be basicly learning in this car.
another question, it has a tiny bit of rust over the driver wheel well, could that be left for awhile without any major problems assuming the rust isnt everywhere else too?
thanks.

Get the car....I had an 89 wagon and I loved it....
The Power Steering isn't a big deal not to have (most older civics don't have it). Once the car gets moving you can't really tell a difference.
Get someone who knows how to drive a stick teach you the correct way and you'll be set.
C'mon guys...we had to start somewhere! Give this person a break!

Oh yea...the rust isn't a biggy....Mine had it over one of the rear wheel wells. It must be a common problem b/c it seems like many accords around that year had rust spots show up there too. I just drove the car and didn't worry about the rust, but you are more than welcome to sand it down and primer it to keep it from getting worse (and it's not like it's going to eat the car away in 3 years...I had rust on mine from day 1 and after 3 years I could barely tell it got any worse)
If you get it post some pics b/c I miss mine!

If it doesn't have power steering that just means you have to use your strength to turn the wheels. You will mostly notice this trying to turn the wheels while at a stop. Driving a manual may seem like a pain at first but you'll catch on. Before you start trying to drive it figure out how to mentally drive a manual. Find out why you are shifting up or down and how the clutch works. Just my .02
sorry dude, your first post just screamed 15 years old. if the wagon is the body style you want, go for it. power steering isn't a biggie, i've taken it off all the cars i've had that had it. you just have to put a little effort into turning the wheel if you are not moving. the way i learned how to drive a stick was i bought a manual prelude and taught myself. within a day you'll be good enough to drive it places, after a month, your a pro... NOW GO GET A HONDA!
I really just wanted to know how much non-ps would differ from ps driving at higher speeds, and I got my answer. All I've ever driven is a civic with power steering and auto, so I'm a bit inexperienced. I don't want to go into something under a false impression because I didn't do enough reseach.
