Default Brake boost?

i know this is a bit of a n00b question but i have been looking to do a rear disc swap on my 99 civic Ex and i know that i dont need to upgrade my master cylinder but can i use a brake boost to pump up my stopping power? and what exactly is a brake boost? thanks

It's part of the power braking system, and basically uses engine vacuum to amplify or "boost" the amount of pressure that is transferred to the master cylinder when you apply the brakes.
