Is this a spun rod?
Pardon my lack of knowledge...but I have never seen anything like this. Is this what a spun rod bearing is?

Ok...so now that you guys can see...I have some questions.
1. What caused this?
2. Is rod a nice paper weight now?
3. Can crank be fixed or is it screwed?
All your help is appreciated.

Pics not working, just the red X. But if the bearing is scored, discolored from
overheating or just completly trashed looking, I would say thats a spun bearing.
This could have been caused by bad clearence and hard driving, combined. Low
oil and hard driving. If you had a bad head gasket and coolant got into the oil, it
will work its way into the bearing and destroy it also. There may be other causes
but this is all I can think of right now and without being able to see the pics, its
hard to say.
Try to repost the pics....
BTW did you notice a sudden drop in oil pressure?

Pics are working.
This is the only one out of the 4 that is screwed up. It is piston number 2.
Also shortblock was purchased this past weekend....I have never personally run this.

Whether it is or not, if you have got the engine tore down that far, just put NEW
bearings back in, check clearnce with plasti-gauge.
And if you have taken any rods off, put NEW bolts back in. They dont haave
to be ARP's or the like, but at least new oem.
These are very critical parts and unless you have access to a place that can
actually test them (bolts, not bearings
) Why risk your entire build?
I dont think its worth the risk, altho some ppl risk it and re-use.
Also, I gave a few causes, with hard driving thrown in cause it will accelerate wear
on worn parts compared to driving "normal".

You can measure the rod and check for trueness, the whole discolor thing doesnt
really apply for rods. But there may be a few extreme cases, but I
havent seen any.
