coilovers vs. springs
ive been thinking about doing some suspension work but am not sure if i should get coilovers or springs. I was talking to one of my buddies and he told me that he had coilovers once and he really didnt like them because he had to always check on them because the ride height would change on him. So now he has springs and loves them, says the drop is nice and it rides like good to. What are your thoughts guys!!!! thanks in advance.

X2, if you have the extra dough, get coilovers. (a GOOD set). If not, get a knowned brand set of springs. Don't cut the stocks.

dude, get the tien type basics, you will love yourself for it. yeah, its more money than drop springs, but your going to be replacing your struts and shocks down the road anyways, (not neccesarily because of malfunction but for performance). so get the coilovers and its adjustable

or dont because "coilovers" really do suck for DD.
Basics are onlyyyyyyyy height adjustable.
I've talk to a bunch of people that swtiched from Teins, Buddy Club's, etc., to a koni and performance spring type setup.
A Koni/Ground Control setup will run close to $1200.
I'm gonna go with a Koni/GC setup since thats what the top cars in STS and STX are running. Ones a 91EF and the other is an 03 Sentra. My best friend runs a Koni/H&R setup on his Focus SVT and its amazing with a great quality ride.
I had Teins, on my evo. Front leaked and they warranty'd them. Backs leaked about 2 months later and I traded them stright up for a set of Tanabe springs on stock struts.

am not one to short cut things for my car, i want the best for it. springs are alot less money, but am in it for performance, but this car is my DD. So am still not to sure.
I know exactly what happened to your buddy's coilovers. They all either have one "ring" that the spring sits on with an allen head bolt through it or two "rings" in a jamb nut sort of setup where you put the one at the height you want and tighten the other against it to "lock" it in place. If the allen bolt wasn't tight enough or the two ring setup wasn't used like a jamb nut then vibration and time would cause the ride height to change. User error, can't really blame the product.
in your situation, I would just buy springs. You'll get most of the performance of a coil over without the hassle of setting your ride height. In my experience, alot of guys who run coil-overs on the street dump their car until they start scraping or breaking their header and then raise them back up to a reasonable height and leave them alone.
