What all should be done for 2nd Service of the Car
Hi,
I just went for 2nd service of my car, after arnd 6k miles.
First one was just an oil change for $30. but this one my dealer charged me $80 saying that this includes other test including brakes check, wheel rotation etc etc along with oil change. Just checking if that was required or these guys made a fool out of me
Thanks & Regards,
Nick

yep, they made a fool out of you. 2nd oil change should be made at about 9k - 10k, that's if you don't drive like a maniac. This is why I do all the oil changes myself.

First off why would you go for a second service at 6k miles what was your first one about?hope it wasnt for a oil change.
damn. you got played.
only thing they did different this time was visually inspect the car i bet. you paid 50 to have your tires rotated basically.

Yup.. they try to rotate your tires like every second time to squeeze an extra $40 or so out of you. I tell them no every time and so far I've only had oil changes and the recall inspection after 25000km.
I work in parts and service at a dealership in MI.
10k miles is what we call the "basic service" allegedly recommended by honda.
It includes an oil change, tire rotation, cleaning of the air filter and resonator chamber; clean, adjust and lubricate the brakes. Also a battery check and top to bottom inspection of the vehicle. People buy them like they were going out of style.
We charge $173 out the door for it.

9k-10k? My oil life was at 15% when I hit 6500 miles(my first oil change). Is it broken? Or am I driving too unspirited? I think I must have gotten one of those cars that you hear about that are built better than the reset of the batch... because I dont have any rattles or noises other people talk about... I get 32+ mpg every tank, and my oil lasted longer than everyone. not to mention my tranny also never grinds.

I usually tell people that it's a personal preference issue. Honda recommends changing the oil on 4cyl. motors every 5k miles(with the exception of the S2K).
The minder says to call for an appointment at 15% and get it changed between 5% and 0%
Either way your car is not going to explode. LOL

I was told I should do that 20 point service too. I told the guy no and just change the oil and rotate the tires. He got all pissy and was a a-hole. So I now take my service else where. They treat me better and it's even closer.
My father is an Acura tech and was out of town when my oil 'minder got to 5%. Not used to a new car I got a bit worried and he said not to worry at all. Oil has been modified so much it can go over the 5k recommendation with no problems. I looked at the old stuff when he changed it and sure enough it didn't look terrible.
on the other hand, I'm used to my old truck that the oil looked like sludge damn near 2k in.
Maybe try looking into an Acura service dept. The techs get paid a bit more so they aren't as grumpy from what I've noticed and heard. Not sure on if the services cost much more there or not. I just buy my dad lunch.

Cleaning the air filter at 10k? Do they do this if your intake is aftermarket??
Also...do they have to take the bumper off to do that? If so, I dont want them touching my bumper/ air filter
