Default Recommendations for Blown engine? 99 Civic

Can anyone on the list recommend some options for my poor little 1999 Honda Civic? It has a blown engine. It is a great little car, but the mechanic wanted $5500 to install a remanufactured engine. Some people have suggested putting in a used engine - but there is no warranty with a used engine. I just don't want to spend $5500 to fix this car.

Thanks.

u can get somthing nice for 5500.. if you waan keep it stock then but 5500 is way to much you can get a sohc v-tec if thats what it has you didnt mention the trim level.. ex dx Si... these motors are very inexpensive like 300-700 $ 700 being low milliage newer motor. id put an b18b in it although you will need a new tranny its worth it a little exrta power and it will only run you a bout $800-1200 for a low miliage one. installation i wounldnt pay over $3000 out the door but the sohc will be cheapest $1500 installed running. is this mechanic at the honda dealership sounds like a price from them you can get a wole new car for 5500

http://www.hmotorsonline.com/ - start there with finding a motor and once you find a motor talk to your mechanic about getting that labor charge down.

H Motors is pretty good with their motors..i know they have like 0 complaints, so id start there
