Hey wats up guys. i need to know what is the proper way of doing an oil pan gasket on b-series?

1. Get a new oil pan gasket 99-00 Civic Si (B16)
2. Remove your old one.
3. Clean pan and oil pickup.
4. Replace new oil gasket, and add a little bit of gasket maker well spread all the way around, thin layer, just to be sure it seals.
5. Tighten to torque spec (99-00 B16 Civic spec).

It's that easy.

 

do I put the rtv on the pan or on the engine?

 

Pan, and be sure to tighten in the right sequence( i think it's from center outwards going diagonal , and do not over tighten or you will regret it later.

 

thanks I asked around how much it would be and they tried to charge me a hundred dollars

 

If you see the gasket sticking out of the pan when you tighten you've tightened too much and might leak.

 

Key word for torquing the oil pan down 'snug'.

It's about right, most shop would charge you an hours plus parts...
Just make sure not too tight... I finger tight mines...

does anyone has the torquing sequence for the oil pan?

this is why i hate being a mechanic. lol.
i need to buy 50,000 dollars in tools, and countless hours studying new things coming out, and then i have the knowledge and tools to do your 100 dollar job.

this is what i dont get. a tech charges 100 to do a pan gasket. and people INSTANTLY think theyre gettin screwed
but a guy from sears comes to your house to fix your washer and dryer and charges you 450 to replace a belt in the dryer and people hand over the money no questions asked.

or i tell someone 200 for brakes. and people FLIP OUT
but theyll go down the street and go to juffy lube and pay 85 for an oil change and air filter replacement..

this world sucks that we live in.

well please excuse the EXTREMELY poor graphics and design skills on my part! lol. this is the best i could do with paint shop, i dont have a scanner to scan my service manual.



and heres the directions right from my 100 dollar factory service manual! lol

"tighten all bolts and nuts finger tight at six points as shown in diagram

-tighten all bolts and nuts starting from bolt 1 clockwise in three steps.

torque 10lb-ft"

and dont ask me what they mean by three steps. i dont know its just what the book says

 

oh yes and it also says make sure to use RTV where the front and rear covers meet the block. youll see a line on the block, youll know what im talkin about. just use a thin bead on the block and your good.

yea like he said lol just finger tighten those six then put all the rest of the studs/nuts on and snug tighten them clockwise from number two to the right and all the way around i just did my oil pan so i know

also don't apply to much rvt on the pan just a little all the way around to hold the gasket.
